I believe 12000 is the heaviest weight that is legal everywhere. Yes, there are places you may be ok being over 12000. But up to 12000, with a properly equipped, properly maintained truck, is good everywhere.
What exactly is the steer axle weight limit?

We all know what's ideal... but in this business things go wrong quick fast and in a hurry.I run a 2012 cascadia that seems ALWAYS overweight on steers. Fifth wheel always back. I do run a reefer that puts a lot of weight up front. My truck is rated for 20k on steers. I'd never run that tho. Tgru pa Ind and Ohio scales 12.2 brought me no issues

My steer tires are rated for 13500.

Every state is different for state highway, some will even let you ride with up to 20k.

I haven't ever had an issue with running 12,300 in all 48, but never more than that.

It is 20K........http://cfr.vlex.com/vid/658-17-weight-19725648

So...go by your door sticker unless it's over 20K depending on tire rating. Mine is a 2008 Volvo and plainly says 12,500 for the steer tire weight limit. I still shoot for 12K or under if I can to avoid any confusion from the scale master. Seems they each have a different idea of what they think the law states and I'd rather avoid any confrontation. Have had over 12K a few times but try to keep it under 12K. -
What is this, the thread that won't die?

Oh, as to the original post. 12K? In my carhauler? Um,,, not happening very often (Yugos excepted.) If I get over 13.5K some places will come out and read the rating, but most of them know we run load range J on the front, good for 13.8 something. Of course, I can count on one hand the number of times I cross a scale while loaded in any given month. Just never seem to any on my selected routes!
SD let's you run heavy on the interstate, but on the 2 lane it's so many pounds per inch, and one of their favorites to write at Blunt.
As pointed out, if you ain't got a RM Truckers Atlas, get one. Because they are like Ragu: "It's in there!"aiwiron Thanks this. -
Rolled out of North Georgia loaded with beer, had 12,800 on my steering axle and came across every scale on I 75 in Georgia and Florida and they all let me roll across ok.
