There is no set gear, way to many factors with ld. turn radius etc. -

Best answer is it depends.

I put her in granny and just idle thru the turn.
TwinStickPeterbilt and Feedlebum Thank this. -
I like to turn around and back through my turns cause Ann Ferro says it's safer.
No you just grab a hole you know will work and start shifting up. You can't come on here and ask us what gear you should be in. YOUR the driver, if you gotta stick it in low low and idle to make it do it.just be warned I will be 10ft tall and bullet proof on the radio. I don't care if you have 2 trucks spec d made and delivered the same day, they'll drive different. We have a pair of sister trucks, one truck has longer legs in 9th gear than the other (10 speed) the other your already in 10th. If you can't decide what gear to be in when you gotta make a turn put it in first make your turn amd leave the keys in the ignition and go find a new job. I don't want to share the road with you. Use your own brain, it obviously works so use it. If your not gonna use your head you might as well have an ### on both ends.Mudguppy, gokiddogo and Ford L8000 Thank this. -

What they are trying to tell you is that your question does not have an answer to it. Some people believe in starting in the lowest gear possible when you are at a complete stop and then to shift through each and ever gear on your way up. Turning a truck at low speed with power steering isn't too difficult. I personal like to start out in 4th gear in a 13 speed. I have had people tell me that will tear up the transmission. So, if I am driving with someone like that looking, I start out in 2nd or 3rd. I also skip gears on the way up or down. What you want to do is to avoid missing a gear when you are in an intersection. You never shift gears while crossing a railroad track because missing a gear there could cause you to stall out the truck and get yourself run over by a train.
As you progress in your driving skills, you will find out that shifting gears becomes second nature to you. Just relax and drive the truck. You can do it. Anything I can do you can do better. I feel a song coming up.

If I was rolling, I'd use the "mystery gear", ( 1st high range)GASP,, I know, lazy man. So many variables here.
Mr Ed and TwinStickPeterbilt Thank this. -
Whatever gear keeps me rolling. But I got a auto so it might be 6th or 3rd all depends.
