Yeah because I thought for sure I had seen a hystat D5 come through the shop once or twice. I was questioning my memory for a second.

I think they made the 6K into the new 4, the 6N size is now the 5, and 6T size is now a 6. I think.

Days of old I am afraid. A D8H was the famous 46A, and I remember running a 6H that was diff steer and the predecessor to the D6R, which then became the D6T. I think it was the T that went to electric over hydraulic dozer controls.

I never understood their logic for lettering, and now that they have done away from it on dozers and excavators at least things might be more comparable once we get used to it. But 8s for example went from just being a D8 with prefixes 1H, 8R, 2U, and 13A, then if memory serves the D8D and G were 15As, then the D8E and F were 14As, and then we get into the D8H which I think came out as 35A, 36A, and 46A, Then the D8Ks were 76V and 77V, and then they skipped to the first high-drive which was 8L. At that point it seems that people quit identifying them by the serial # prefix.

A lot more info than needed? Sorry, I'm showing my age. Lol

Them old 8H’s with the 342 motor everyone and they brother would try for days to overhaul them through the side plates on the block......after 3 days and still not having the first cotter pin out they would pull the belly pan anyway to get the pan off. Never understood those guys. The 8K was the first 3406 I think.

differential steer, hand clutches, torque converters with diesel instead of oil in them all things I thought I never hear about again

thatis the operating weight. That is not what you are hauling. The machine s broken down. Broken down ALOT, tracks and undrcarriage removed, blade removed, rippe. Etc. So what is the actual weight you are hauling
