In this specific situation, assume you are making a tight right turn but there is no stop light or stop sign. Seems you will approach your turn going about 15mph in 6th gear or so after downshifting to get to your turn, but have to slow way down to swing wide and make the turn slowly. How do you go about downshifting to make sure you’re in a low enough gear to get through the turn? Do you quickly downshift right at the point of the turn? Just afraid it would cause me to miss and make a mistake with the turn.
What gear to be in when making tight right turn?

Best to approach the corner slow. That gives you the most time to decide how to negotiate the turn.

Well I take every turn left or right real slow especially when I'am loaded..
I just kick it in to neutral going into my turn and float it back in to 2nd gear as I'am making the turn sometimes if it's really tight it will be 1st gear.. that's just me .. I'am sure somebody will correct me because it's wrongBrettj3876, LtlAnonymous, Cat sdp and 5 others Thank this. -
Can’t go wrong taking you’re time. Slow down early. Tight right, should be slow, 3rd gear, lower if needed. No Stop sign? Doesn’t matter. Can’t Trust other vehicles, just go slow, and be careful. Worst thing that can happen is having to come to a stop and start over. After while you’ll know when you can go a little faster, in a higher gear if needed to merge or whatever. Try to develop good habits. They come in handy when there’s no time to think, only react.

That’s what I do, easy on the driveline. Probably fail a Drivers Test myself. Lol.Geekonthestreet, LtlAnonymous, pete781693 and 2 others Thank this.

One nice thing about running the same route every day is I can usually find a way avoid the tight rights by going around a block somewhere and coming back straight across.
Some places I go to I do have to do it that way.LtlAnonymous, pete781693, Coffey and 2 others Thank this. -
It's probably cause for failure on a test .. but I guess I would fake like Iam trying to find the correct gear if it ever comes to that
I'am so freaking top heavy that I just crawl into a turn.. they like to crowd the direction your turning anyhow it's just their natureLast edited by a moderator: Apr 8, 2022

I developed that habit working Local in a 6 wheeler. Always stacked higher on the left side. Right side would always fall first. Slow easy smooth turns. Still have boxes of meat falling. Lol. Still drive my 4 wheeler that way too. My wife’s been riding with me in the Truck so long, she now drives real easy. Got the horn 3 times today, only drove 10 miles to get parts. Lol.LtlAnonymous, pete781693, Coffey and 2 others Thank this.

.. I don't care I just laugh..LtlAnonymous, pete781693, goga and 3 others Thank this. -
Let me guess. That usually comes from the morons trying to make a left on to a main drag at an uncontrolled intersection when there’s a traffic light 1 block in either direction, or the ones who don’t know how to stop behind the big white line.TravR1, LtlAnonymous, pete781693 and 2 others Thank this.
