So my friend got me a GPS called Rand McNally 5 Road Explorer, but there's no voice or whatever. My old one had voice and was easy to use too. This one, is very slow and confusing. I want the same type that you see truckers use in YouTube videos.

I have never actually bought a GPS before so any help will be appreciated.

I just use the free GPS on the Qualcomm. The McNalley Rand ones are a little nicer, but not $200.00 nicer.

Why do you want voice? That #### thing will just squawk speed warning at you every 5 minutes because it thinks you are on the frontage road and not the freeway. That thing is like a very dramatic female, always talking crap trying to get people in trouble.

Sounds like someone has some issues.

You do know that you can set the speed warning to whatever you want, right?
It is one of the settings.

Settings, as in user defined options that the user sets - if they take the small amount of time to access it.

    Garmin dezel 760.
7” screen, Bluetooth, free traffic alerts that were at one point very accurate and reliable...not so much lately. Lots of other features like IFTA..records miles in every state you travel.

I’ve had mine two years now and really like it.

Once in awhile it crashes and reboots though.

Cost is/was about $400 although I’ve seen them offer a $50 rebate from time to time.

Probably by now Garmin has a better model out so keep that in mind.

I have no experience with the Rand McNally but a friend of mine didn’t like his..He told me he had to pay extra for the traffic alerts.

Sygic truck available on android play store worked for me. Has all relevant clearance and weight restrictions. I now drive milk truck on an assigned route so I don't need the subscription right now but it's fairly reasonable and you might as well use the phone or tablet you already have. There are other andriod options but I found that one worked the best. It allows you to enter all of your truck specifiactions. I used it allot when I did dump truck. Whatever you use make sure it's programmed for commercial vehicles and not cars. No Google maps.

When is Google going to come out with a Google maps truck?

My speed limits were accurate only half the time using the McNalley Rand with the larger screen. That was on a training truck. Later I used a smaller version, seemed to be same software. That one didnt sqwack at me but its speed limit deals were still a little rocky. I just ignored it. Never trusted the speed limit feature.

The most commonly used truck GPS units are the Rand McNally RM 730 & RM 740 and Garmin 770. Those are about $400 with 7 inch screens. You can use the 5 inch versions RM540 Garmin 570 for about $120 less. They both speak, or can be muted, and have numerous useful functions. They are slightly different from each other and have their own way of doing things. You will get used to whatever unit you use. Flip a coin to pick or pick the one someone you know has so he can help you learn that box quicker. Neither is perfect and neither will get you out of a ticket if it leads you astray, so don't trust it 100%. Common sense is your job.

Definitely not the ones I used. It was typically off by 10 miles an hour. Speed limit was 65, it would think 55. When it was 55 it would think 45. Not all the time. Don't know if the guys that owned them weren't updating the software or what. But I ended up leaving the volume on them off.
