I use the Tom Tom Trucker gps mainly because I got it dirt cheap, but no complaints considering the price.

Google maps + common sense. Never totally trust a GPS! Not even a so-called truck GPS, most of which are a total pain because they will route you way out of route around a supposed obstacle
I learned the hard way in northern Pennsylvania when the road that started out decent went down a steep hill and around a bend and stopped at a dry creek bed. That was supposed to be a truck GPS too, I believe it was a Garmin. Cost me my 1st class a job.
Also always keep an atlas handy in case you can't get a signalBumper Thanks this. -
I use refurbished $59.00 Garmins.....I have been through 2 of them in 4 years but nothing lasts out here so....

I have a Rand McNally TND 530. Love it. I have had 4 or 5 of them over the last 5 years. They're great until the hardware fails ....usually a charging problem...it'll just quit on you every time you try to plug it in...happens like clockwork within 10 to 15 months. Then you have to buy a new one at TA, stick the old unit in that new box and return it. The first two TAs you try to return it at will notice that the bar codes don't match but the third one won't. Anyway yeah try a Garmin.

How about just using the truck path app?

I recommend the Garmin DEZL series. It's great you just have to ensure that you keep your maps updated. I use this in conjunction with Google Maps it works out just fine for me.
