What happened to "real" restaurants at truckstops? What stops still have them?

24 hour operations... not many family restaurants cater to the needs of a big rig.

And give it time. Everything that goes out of fashion, eventually comes back and is once again desired, and the market will eventually respond.

But changing HOS rules and the increasing eLog fleets are a big part of why sit-down dining has taken a huge hit, as well as the “new breed” of drivers coming in with little disposable wages.

With regard to new drivers, I'm not in agreement with putting any aspect of their needs or "disposable wages" as you call it as part of any problem. These guys have to get started somewhere and they need the same things everyone else needs.

We all grow as we experience new things. Maybe they have a little different approach when they first start out but, they too need a place to rest and get organized. HOS is the new common denominator and it will produce quality drivers. Not everyone is cut out for trucking. Not 40 years ago and not today. The process of weeding out the real trucker is the same as it has always been.

    Advice.
Keep a list of places you see that you can get a truck into. You will be surprised how many good places to eat that have parking and if you have to walk across the street, so what! You need the exercise.
Today I stopped at a little place in Donaldsville ga. US 84, Jo’s restaurant. $10 all you can eat buffet that was excellent. Try to get a good sit down meal at a freakin loves or TA for $10! Plus it came with homemade banana pudding!!! Winning!

High prices and crap for food. That’s why truckstop restaurants are not being used by drivers anymore.

My only problem with any and all truck stop food, is that I'm getting old.

I will still eat anything that won't eat me first.

    Just can't eat as much.

Yep, there will be those places that you can squeeze a big truck into. And those places where you can park across a busy street and get some exercise dodging traffic or hurdling a guardrail (exaggerating of coarse). I had a few of those too. But the odds are you cannot take a 34 hr reset there, or do your laundry or get a simple marker light fixed (for the record I fix my own) or browse through a truckers store etc. etc.

My only point being, very few family style restaurants can help a trucker with anything except a good healthy sit down meal.

But what the heck am I worried about? I'm 2old... I guess that old saying is true. "If you never had it, you won't miss it."

I almost forgot The Tomahawk Truck Stop just south of Colorado Springs.

    Great little diner. MONSTER portions.

Just get the special. It will feed 3 people lol.
