You can go on believing this, but your wrong. The carriers and schools held their end when they financed the school and got the driver that class A. Nobody held a gun to that drivers head forcing them to sign. What the carriers are doing is in my opinion morally wrong, but IT IS NOT LEGALLY WRONG and hence there is no breach of contract by the underpaying because it is clearly spelled out in the contract. This crap is why I wish more drivers would use community schools and government grants to pay for this school.

I agree, nobody should use a CDL mill company. But there are people out there desperate for money and a job. They see these adds for 70k a year, they call and get lied to by the recruiters.

They get on, don't get the miles or have their paychecks screwed with. Their trainers use them as "team" drivers, they get stuck in a truck stop while a trainer takes his home time. Nobody should give up their self respect and get lied too or go without a paycheck just to hold up their end of a bad contract.

Whose job is it to protect them from those BIG BAD Companies.
    The Government?
Most of the time that can be avoided with a little research on their part.

As I posted earlier I have a organization that is giving me a grant to go to cdl school, they just require a simple prehire letter. Out of 20 companies I went to only one was willing to give out a prehire letter, and that one is one of the few that didnt have their own cdl school. Grants thru the government can not be used for cdl schools unless they are through a community college, as cdl schools are generally too short to qualify.

So even though I could obtain a grant to go to any of their cdl schools, I would not be under contract to them. Although they were all willing to sign me on the dotted line and pay for the schooling if I signed that contract.

Which tells me the price of the schooling is not relevant, its getting you into that contract for a year or so to make money off of cheap labor, since I could have paid any of them for the school cost for the 5 minutes it would have taken for that letter of intent to hire.

I still like the CDL via Community College route... One will be "paying it off" either way.

Just get a Student Loan for the tuition or as mentioned there are a few options to qualifying for programs to help pay for it too.

But I like having clean clear options vs being stuck with one option for the year...

I rarely signed a new contract with my cell phone carrier unless I needed a new "free" phone from them... So glad now I can just buy an iPhone from Apple and do what I want on the carrier side... Even though I will more than likely stay with Verizon, it's nice to have options.

I'm in that same shape. I'm with a para transit company that trained me for CDL Class C. Their commitment time is 6 months, which i have no problem with forfilling, but my situation is, my criminal background came up. Now I'm not even working, waiting on the company to figure out what to do. I want to leave, but am afraid they will try to "invalidate' my license because i can't satisfy their commitment time.

Well, they should have done the background check earlier... They if you didn't qualify ok... But to do the training and commit to 6 months... Only to be put in limbo... Geesh

I would look for another job that will hire you... If they then want to hire you great... If not, then make the argument that you are trained and willing and able to work to satisfy your part of the contract... It is them not letting you at this point... So, I would aurgue, you are not liable for your commitment since they are the ones breaking it not you.

But, start looking for a place that will hire you. Then you are good either way it goes down.

    Stay Safe,

They have 3 companies in 1. Their trying to find out whether i qualify to work with either of the 2. I just called. They guy in charge of all this info has went on vacation, and now i'm stuck in a longer limbo til next Monday. Could they "invalidate" my license if i just left? By the way, I'm in Illinois. Thanks.

Your CDL is issued by the State not the company. They might ding your Credit for non payment but I don't think they can touch your State Issued CDL.

But again, they are the ones breaking the deal not you... Don't forget that "you are willing and able to complete you commitment" ... They are the ones backing up from their commitment to you.

And if you find another option, take it until they decide if you qualify or not. If they find you a spot great, if you want to go back to them go... If they don't find a spot for you, then you already have a job.
