well, you could still get a job as a dispatcher, most of them have their heads up their butt to begin with.

Hopefully you're not in Wisconsin OR hopefully Wisconsin has changed their ways.. Until 2000 or so they allowed NO waivers whatsoever. If you could not pass the tests.. you did not get a CDL..

Definitely go to the vision center and thoroughly have your eyes checked, for both vision and diseases. You may be very lucky and just need prescription glasses to correct your vision in either your weak eye, or possibly both of them.

Also, if you do need glasses, you may need to also get a 2nd. pair. If I recall correctly, OTR, possibly local, truck drivers must have a 2nd. pair of eyeglasses inside the truck with them at all times, per federal regulations.

    Good luck to you!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

I doubt if I'll ever fail any of the tests as long as I go back to the same place. They barely bother with the eye test anymore. Doc doesn't even check for a hernia. He just asks if I have any new ones :biggrin_2559:

Then we talk about the weather for 10 minutes and I'm out of there.

That's a new one for a reg to make it mandatory to have a second pair of glasses.....

    Care to share it...

I have heard this from many truck drivers at various truck stops about needing a 2nd. pair of eyeglasses inside the truck. The drivers all stressed federal regulations. They did not sound as though they were "throwing the bull". It actually made perfect sense to me. If one pair of glasses should get damaged, a spare pair can and will save the day. One must be able to see to drive safely.

    NOTE:
I had put "if I recall correctly".

"If I recall correctly" is not a valid excuse to a LEO. Hence my asking....

What regulation does that fall under. If you feel I am singling you out on that, I am not. I will ask that of anyone that says, "If I recall the regs correctly...."

I am an old crusty MP NCO as well as a former HazMat certifying official (That means if you had training on HazMat, I did that training for you. I also signed off on all hazmat shipments for us BEFORE they could be shipped out for both correct packaging, documentation AND labelling) for the National guard unit when we deployed overseas. I have been trucking since 1990. Regulations have meaning and clout. "If I recall" doesn't.

One gets you in trouble, the other doesn't.

I go to this extreme because others come here and get or expect good information. If they are wondering about this same topic, it could have an impact on their decision they make.

Many truckers at various truck stops will tell you that you can't carry a firearm in a CMV and sound as if they aren't throwing a lot of bull: But they are.
