who gets into an at-fault accident and causes someone's death? Prison?
Or he causes some bridge to collapse and injures dozens?
    Asking for knowledge.

I am asking this because I will be driving an 80,000 pound killing machine

Do you have any examples to tell us about.

It’s like a gun or a knife. Trucks don’t kill people, drivers or other drivers kill people.

If you keep your head out of your hindquarters, you ought to be a-ok. Most of us don’t generally go around killing folks.

That is one factor in the equation.
    There are many, many more.

Any driver out there, CDL or not, who is at-fault for causing a death is probably going to suffer the same consequences.

    The bridge thing?
See the signs and don't go on a weight restricted bridge if you are overweight. Simple?

The most important thing in this job is this, in my opinion...
You have to control your time on any load, not let the load times control you.
If you are in a rush to make a time slot, then you are not in total control and will make mistakes.
    Mistakes lead to crashes.

    No

Theres plenty of ways to kill your self or others by slowing down the wrong way too (brake fade or hard braking resulting in jacknife/load shift come to mind)

Situational awareness is your friend. Brains may save you from sweating or earn you more money, but a generally calm methodical approach to driving is a better recipe for safely driving a few million miles

Yeah but killing someone in your personal car requires you to be a total moron. But with an 80000 pound track, it doesn't take much to kill. I read somewhere few months back that the truck crushed a Lexus SUV on the highway. It probably crushed all the bones of the passengers.

Was the truck driver at-fault for that one?

The weight of the vehicle isn't the main concern.
The main concern is how the driver is driving.

We ARE still talking about AT-FAULT crashes, right?
If so, then the truck driver with the 80k vehicle also has to be a total moron to kill someone.

Bean Jr. and Solo Soul Thank this.
