So, here's one for the O/Os in the crowd: I book a guy on an over-width load. I tell his dispatcher when we book it that it's over-width. I put the width (10') on the rate confirmation. He show up, take a look at it, and say, "Oh, I don't do over-dimensional loads," and I find out because my site guy calls me to tell me that he's telling me this. I call him, and he peaces out on the load.
What do you all think I should do? We often hear from you guys on what you should do to a broker who effs you over. What do you think, in reverse?
I'm mostly curious on your guys' perspectives. I know what I'm doing in this particular instance, but I'd like to see your guys' thoughts.
what happens when you brokers fail at getting loads covered?

There's nothing you can do but never work with them again. Some carriers are just the worst. One of my old coworkers posted a load up for a conestoga and got an all wood 53' step with no tarps showing up at pickup.
Basically the strategy is to take the load and then show up with the wrong #### and make the other people deal with it. The crappy part is that a lot of time the customer and the broker just have to live with it because the load must move.
When people do this with honest to goodness good freight it's an instant blacklist. You can tell a lot about someone's character from the context of the situation.bigguns, spyder7723, tommymonza and 2 others Thank this. -

I work at a large carrier and we'll broker out our overflow. I usually send what we need out to 3 or 4 brokers and see who gets the best rate. Sometimes only one broker will end up finding a truck.
I like dealing with guys that won't even give me quote until they find a truck.
I've had some that say "yeah we have a truck, here's the rate" --and I send rate cons-- only to find out at the last minute that they don't have a truck!bigguns Thanks this. -

Doubt it'll ever happen but there should be steep fines for Carriers, brokers and Shippers/receivers when they lie and/or pull some bs.
Problem is everybody gets away with it.
I'd personally have no problem paying good money if my truck is late or can't show up as long as i know I am getting paid real good if the shipper screws me over or broker lied about the load.
People should be held accountable to stop this madness.emeraldladdie, whoopNride, bigguns and 2 others Thank this. -
EDIT: There absolutely are customers who operate like this. They fine the broker whenever anything goes wrong pretty much and leave it to the broker to pass it on. Some of them also pay detention. Obviously I'm a lot less butthurt about the ones who pay both ways but a lot of them just use fines to keep transportation costs down and suck the life out of people.bigguns Thanks this.
