Yeah, no doubt about that. Too bad I'm not a retired aviation colonel or something...

I'm going to take a guess at this and say yes. That is because the way they ask the question "what company are you with" hate that question!

My reply is "My business is called _____"

I generally figure if the customer wanted a mega they would have called one. The megas are very seldom willing to work with freight brokers for less than market+5-10% from my experience. And then they do a ton of double brokering.

I see the megas as competition just like other brokers.

EDIT: To clarify I think my job is literally to virtualize my very own mega carrier. I own none of the equipment, but if I can use it to accomplish what needs accomplished from the customers perspective what's the difference? Does anyone here think the megas 'own' stuff in the same way you do? No... that's why they do lease purchase deals with everyone who will buy one, and why they have giant revolving credit lines.

Nooooope. I stay away from the megas like the plague. That's a good way to get double-brokered and deal with back-solicitation. Like @boredsocial said, if my customers wanted the load to go with a mega, they would. My best customer uses XPO for a lot of his smaller stuff. He also uses local carriers for a lot of stuff, as well. I've still moved 100+ loads for him this year, making pretty decent money on each of those.

If you think it's fair when they lose money and want to cap their profits you're going to create a pretty weird market.

No offense guys, but a lot of people on this forum pretend to be conservatives until they want the government to do something for them. Then suddenly they are crying about how much better things were before deregulation.

Either believe in free markets or don't. If you want the government to replace freight brokers take a long hard look at what doing business with the government is actually like.

If they lose money, how are you supposed to make any?

I think it's fair when they lose money. But i also think its fair when i lose money if I'm boneheaded enough to pull a load at a loss.

As far as deregulation. Anyone that thinks things were better when freight markets were regulated obviously wasn't around then.
