    And I never said it didn't need to have the carriers name on it. We agree, but came at it from 2 different directions.

    Something I learned when I had my own outfit. The BOL must contain the trucking co info (name, location,etc) plus any "terms of payment" (pay within 30 days, etc) plus "legible signatures" of "shipper's agent", "reciever's agent" and "Transporter's agent (driver)". Not just "what you get paid from"; a BOL is a Legal Document, admissable in Court.

    Let's just suppose that the reciever screws up somehow and says "We never got that load. We ain't gonna pay for it. Take us to court." All your company has is a packing list with a couple of illegible scrawls on it.... or a "handmade BOL" with a couple of scrawled lines for reciever's sigs. You, the "Carrier's Agent" are gonna be called up to testify;

    Reciever's Lawyer: Where's your company's BOL?

    You: I lost it.

    Reciever's Lawyer (pointing to scrawl on bottom of page): Whose signature is that?

    You: Somebody at recieving.

    RL: What's his name?

    You: I dunno.

    Now, as the Responsible Party, you are coming off as a Total Idiot or immediately under suspicion of having stolen the load and selling it. Either way you will be fired and on the "Black List". Your career is over.

    I still hack people off when I get a scribble sig by asking "What's your name?" and printing it underneath their scribble.
