I can confirm that, as a graduate of the slow learner academy.

Between both my Parents, they had 10 marriages. Never any stability. One thing I’ve learned, watching it all, often it’s the same problems, different people, circumstances maybe. They both agreed they’d both been better off working out their first marriage to each other. By then it was way too late. Hijacked thread alert!!! Oops, sorry!!!

Hmm I’ve been contempt reading these posts instead of answering until I read a few specific ones; late last year when I was trying to make it through my first truck driving gig at Schneider, 2 weeks down in training, leaving the next day for the final week to meet up with a trainer, but at 3 am my phone rings which I guess didn’t seem like that big of a deal at the moment; it’s my uncle calling me and I greet him with the usual “Hey how are you doing”, don’t really remember how the conversation went but almost right after we started talking he told me my grandpa had died, asked me if I was okay and I broke down after I said “no” lol I almost never cry because it’s hard for me to show much emotion. My grandpa meant a great deal to me because when I was 10 my dad over dosed on prescription pills, pretty much sat alone at his wake/funeral surrounded by unfamiliar faces; I owe almost everything I am to my grandpa, always was a role model for me and there’s nothing more ####ty than the time when I got on the greyhound heading back home, still in a somewhat state of shock thinking about how great it’s gonna be to tell him all about my adventures and the places I’ve been, always talked to him about everything, then I finally came to realize the only reason why I was on the bus was because he was gone

Man that is a tough one. I think alot of truckers have stories like that. I know i came out here because of my grandpa as well. He was a locomotive engineer, so i became a truck driver. Wish he was here to see it.... I think alot of truckers follow dad and grandpa out here onto the road

Coming into 2 fresh fatal accidents.

First one out on a little county road, a motorcycle ran a stop sign on a gravel road and got broadsided by an SUV doing about 60. 2 other cars had already stopped, another two were slamming their brakes on, and he was laying in the ditch and they were running to him. Next trip by that spot, a wooden cross in the ditch.

Second one, same deal. Out in the country on a little state highway, 2 cars hit headon, and a 3rd flatbed wrecker following hit one of the wrecked cars. There were cars stopped to help as they could, 2 people laying in the ditch, 2 others still in the wrecked cars. I got 5 or 6 following trucks to slow down in time. 6 cops showed up 15-20 minutes later, and 10 minutes later, we're all moving for the Life Flight to land on the roadway. Down a teeny tiny gravel road pulling a 53 footer. The road was the easy part, the turn a mile south wasn't, but I had it a lot easier than their families did.

Can't drive by either spot without remembering.

Nothing like some of you guys, but probably my fourth or fifth solo interstate trip, 80K, winter, pulling out of, IIRC, Sandpoint, Idaho going north, 10 PM. Big sweeping four lane turn on a grade, and it’s cold and snowing. Truck starts slipping, then slowly sliding down. I steer into the slide, and am pointing the nose more than 45 degrees uphill from center, gripping the buttons on the seat with my buttocks, promising God whatever he wants to hear, and slowly, barely, almost imperceptibly drift a loaded semi trailer around the curve....

You couldn’t have driven a pin up my back side with a 20 lb sledge. Today I’m usually one of the first guys to put chains on.

Something I think about when I get bad addresses or make a wrong turn. Had a driver that worked on the dock because he always got lost. The Dispatcher sent him out to pick up a load that was already covered. On the way back to the terminal a car hit the trailer. The driver of the car lost his life.
