and don't underestimate luck. last night, someone changed lanes right next to me, the front of his trailer w right next to my door, so he underfoot that by a lot. I moved over so I didn't get hit. for me, spoil prevented that accident. for him, it was luck. if I didn't see him and move, he would have had an accident on his record

Luck does not keep you paying attention to everything going on around you, skill does . . . He was showing his lack of skill

Sorry about tons of wrong words, typing this on a cell phone

nobody cares, if they're getting paid. but comparing what a good driving school teachers, compared to what it took to get me on the road, I'm on the side of requiring a good driving school.

relying on the crash course to get licensed and then friending on a trainer to teach me, sucked. I'm still trying to figure stiff out on my own, like getting set up to back. I take advice, but I still need to put that into practice. if I paid the $4k till go to the good school by my house, I would have been able too do all that before they even let me get my license.

I'm proof that we really do need some kind of schooling requirement, Just to set a standard of when you're ready to drive. honestly, the only reason I haven't crashed backing, is because I actually look to see where the trailer is and is going... but aiming it into that spot, I'm useless, all because my trainer shocked and taught me nothing alt it, and my company's answer was to figure it out in parking lots

and yeah, he was showing lack of skill, but wouldn't you call it luck on his end that I moved? it was an accident if I wasn't watching his truck

Could be worse, I work for a HHG & White Glove shipper.

Every time I think my pay is bad I realize the guys humping next to me without a CDL are making about half!

By the way,,, we're hiring! :D

Wanna know what happened to trucking?? Truck drivers. The more drivers have the entitlement mentality the worse it is for all of us. Learn your industry. Have a contract? READ IT!!! Clean up your act and your appearance. What happened to trucking? Same thing that happened to professionalism. Out the ####### window when "drivers" starter putting their hands out instead of on the wheel and shirking any responsibility for their own actions.

Lonesome has it right. This is another 'No-where thread'.

It's a thread that goes no where. Oh, it goes around and around like the proverbial merry-go-round, with same rants. Nothing more than a blame game. It's entitlement, it's the gooberment, it's truck drivers, it's bottom-feeder rip-off trucking companies, it's too much regulation, it's not enough of the right kind of regulation, it's low pay, it's long hours, it's 100% driver turnover, it's isolation and confinement, it's health issues, no, it's not health issues, it's driver responsibility, it's CDL mills, it's...

Hey, what happened to the good old days? The 'good' old days were just different. Not better. Believe me, a lot about trucking has not changed. A lot. The rants are a good example. Different day, same...

How does a thread become a 'no-where thread'? Simple, after the OP starts the thread it gets immediately hijacked and sidetracked into a one-sided rant. Someone else rants back.

We'all might as well have earplugs on. It's a no-where thread.

Judging by YOUR quote, you're not Black; so how are you as you say "sure" that this was a misunderstanding? Remember, African-Americans are the ONLY race to not migrate to this nation by choice....it was kidnapping (slavery). Only race to face the same level of apartheid as once was in the country of South Africa......impossible for you to pass judgement on hypersensitivity regarding this issue since you are not Black.

actually, the Irish came here through save trade too. people tend to forget that that they were slaves before the blacks. That's right, America's first slaves were all white!!!!!!!

and black slaves weren't kidnapped, they were sold to us by their own people. I think It was the same for Irish too

ok, I am done with the history lesson......fact is, African-Americans were treated like crap from day and racism still exists heavily in this country. Black people can't and shouldn't just get over it due to the scars that still remain, and white folks wish it all never happened....Good Luck! There will never be a total bridge connection so whatever.....as far as the original post goes, If you want to get a job as a truck driver, do what you have to do to get your job.....Call Swift, go to their 3 week school, begin driving...Get 6 months to a year and go elsewhere. Be smart, do your job and make some money, period. Complaining and yak'n about the good ol' days aint gonna put food on your table so just let 'em go. Not everyone had the same environment growing up "around trucks"....Man, if I had a nickel for every guy that screams this line about "growing up around trucks". This job is what you make it...Quit bringing up the "good ol' days" like they are some ex-girlfriend that you just can't get over....She's married to another man, and happy....let her go! OMG!! If you really want to be a trucker, the only thing that is stopping you is yourself!
