You have admitted that you are proof we need better schooling....I commend you for saying what most rookies won't. That's very admirable. BUT... Making another gooberment regulation is not the answer IMO. That's why the OP is in his situation. Here's an experienced driver wanting to get on the road and can't because of the insurance. Seems kinda stupid if you ask me. They (insurance companies) would rather put their money on a rookie over an experienced driver? That's crazy. A short refresher course should be all that's needed. And by short I mean three days max.

It is the ongoing systematic corporate #### rape of America perpetrated by bankers and politicians and carried out by people who weren't good for anything else so they got human resource degrees.

That is what it boils down to basically, you have these mega carriers all built on a model that is designed to bring people in, use them up for a couple of years and spit them out. They are looking for a known quantity, and thus they are looking for someone that has gone to a truck driving school because by hiring that person when they come to work for them with a certificate that says they attended truck driving school it gives them a liability shelter because they hired a "Competent Person" and thus if that guy piles up a truck, they are limiting their losses.

The greedy ######## club has had their hooks into the industry for a long time, and you also have to consider one of the commodities they produce is more drivers, think about the business model, they bring in a total noob, train them through their driving school that is sanctioned by the state, they give them just enough training to get freight down the road with a certain loss percentage, and as long as they do not cross that threshold they are fat dumb and happy at the corporate level.

Then after they have utilized that person for a couple of years and their pay is starting to climb up the scale, they will find a reason to terminate that person or run them off, and they will throw a fresh warm body who just completed their training in the drivers seat, and the cycle shall continue.

But there is more part of the gig is that they have their hooks into the colleges, so the colleges train human resources people to look for only people whom have attended trucking schools because they are the "real professionals" Thus when the low level HR person who is in charge of head hunting looks at you they are looking for base criteria so they can slap you into a seat for a couple of years, turn so many loads through the truck before the replace you with someone else long before any kind of real benefits kick in.

Even better if they can get you to lease a truck.

It isn't capitalism, it is more of a sick twisted kind of corporatism where the snake eats its self, but before it dies it spits it back up and then starts all over again after replenishing its self on some fresh meat.

What is worse is that the mega carriers have their hooks into the corrupt politicians who are out there making the rules, so they push for the hours of service to be exactly what suits them the best. This is the reason there has been such a push for EOBR's, it is so as that the megas can take the poor dumb schmuck they have warming the seat and micro manage how they drive and insist that it is not them, it is what the government is making them do.

And thus they can sit in their air conditioned central office looking at a computer screen digitally whipping their rented mule to get back behind the wheel and gitty up go on down the road a little further until they say stop.

The soul of truck driving is long since dead and gone out of these companies, and it is these companies that are dragging the industry down with it because it is like we are all stuck in the quick sand they have created that is our reputation as an industry.

For them the HOS rules and the EOBR's are all about driving out the independents and making more of the drones gobbling up more of the market for themselves, and with the crooked politicians by their side they don't have to worry about breaking the law when they write the law.

Did that pretty well sum it up?

your conspiracy has a big flaw... if you're a company that gets paid by the load, why would you restrict drive time even more? The drivers have their fair share of the reason that the laws are the way they are now

We need to come together as drivers, as participants in a crucial economic industry, what we want our future to look like. The rants don't really help. Most of us would like to go back to a mythical time when a guy/gal could buy a truck and make a decent living without ruining his/her health and credit score.

The megas and distribution-center-size shippers/receivers aren't going away and have created an unsafe, unhealthy driving environment, both economically and health-wise. Especially for new drivers.

We need to side-step the rants and blame-games and dialog about our future and how to get there.

Sign of the times. The younger generation is basically clueless. Young inexperienced 'trainers' training inexperienced newbies that drive their truck as if it's a car and have no thought to practice common courtesy or slow motion in parking lots and truck stops and warehouses etc. They hurry to the next red light and brake hard , come to a complete stop and have to start all over again instead of pacing themselves. They are more offensive than defensive. Not all but many. You see it everyday. Flying thru truck stops to the fuel island with no sense of safety in mind. Won't have to worry about it pretty since there will be self-driving vehicles taking over all of our jobs.
