I'm not allowed to keep any OS&D, but I've gotten all kinds of free baked goods from the Svenhard's Bakery in Oakland, CA. They make some good stuff.

I've gotten free snacks and little things of that nature from various shippers. Some give you a little treat when they bring you the bills. I wish it happened more often, but then again, I don't want a bunk full of food.

I haul reefer, so It's not often I get free stuff. Most of my loads are meat, ice cream and produce. Things that pretty much have to be kept cold to hold up.

I myself have only gotten small perishable items,, 4 cases of salt,, 8 cases of nutmeg ect,,, BUT,, met a driver at the Iowa 80 in NC who sold me a 60 in Samsung, internet ready and 3d ready tv for $50.00,, he had 5 that where rejected due to a tear in the boxes,,minor tears at that,,almost no more than scratches, mine works great. Kids and wife love it,, man I made out.

I'd be real careful about high dollar electronics. Usually if something that valuable gets rejected by the receiver the shipper wants it back.

Cape Cod Potato Chips in Hyannis Mass used to have a gaylord full of bags of chips on their dock. One of the bakeries in Detroit (maybe it was Nabisco, not sure) had all kinds of cookies and cakes that were factory seconds and they would give that stuff away. I've heard from old timers that Anheuser-Busch used to give free beer to the drivers....of course that world long since moved on.

Theres no way I could haul ice cream. I'd weigh 600 lbs in the first year if I didn't get fired first for eating my load. I'm a sucker for ice cream.

I once hauled a load of Bacardi Rum up from Atlanta GA to Louisville Ky, a buddy told me they wouldve given me a bottle if i asked but i didnt know that till after i left, oh well i dont drink much anyways.

Oh forgot, a fellow driver and good friend of mine helped a yard employee at our gary terminal restack 6 pallets of lorna doone cookies. The trailer had been rearended and 6 pallets had to be restacked and loaded on another trlr, some of the boxes were damaged so they gave them to us.
