$50 cash and some T-shirts in FL about a decade ago. They messed up loading me and had to off-load the whole thing and re-tag the cases. The owner was real cool, though. I think he bought me lunch, too...
A half-dozen cases of paper plates last year.
Kept one case....dropped the others off at a shipper with a huge breakroom...they were glad to have 'em.
What have you got for free from a shp/recv

Pulling flatbed I usually got lunch out of the construction crews once or twice a month...heck they even took me out drinking one night since we couldn't unload. When I was doing the machinery tradeshow gig I got lunch and supper a lot. Plus lots of added detention pay and a nice tan from kicking back in my lawnchair for days at a time.
Pulling reefer now and delivering to a bunch of small companies I usually get cases of their products when I least expect it. Theres a small organic place in Vermont that gives me a case of salad dressing or salsa everytime I deliver. I normally don't have damages or overages since I lump my own freight on and off the trailer and also the different items are pretty pricey. Nothing like hauling a pallet of beer that retails for $11,000 and orgainc yogurt/milk that rises in price everyday. Recievers are happy when you show up with those products.Civilservant Thanks this. -
CondoCruiser, I agree with you. I called the 800 number on the bills, was told by a very rude lady "our loaders would not make that kind of mistake. You obviously cannot count and shorted one of your stops. I suggest you make a couple of phone calls and find out whom". Then she hung up on me. Called my terminal manager, he said just get rid of it. So I did.

I wonder that someone, after reading a quick 2 line post, can think they know enough about an event to question someones ethics. Maybe a little more info would be needed to make that kind of conclusion, before calling them out in an open forum over it. Just a thought.

Holy Cow, you guys get a bunch of stuff. So thats why the BFI's pay so crappy, they figure you make it up in product.
The cheap skate outfit we haul out of don't even invite us in when they have pizza for the crew. -
I got 6 cans of restaurant-sized Hershey's chocolate syrup because one was leaking (the other five were good).
Got a few bags of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (crushed, but still edible)
A few stray candy bars from a ripped open box that the receiver didn't feel like picking up individual bars but had signed that they received all the product with no damage.
Two cases of Burger King fish fillets from them getting forked. Gave them to a waitress at a TA. She was very happy to get them. -
Being a shipper / receiver, I cannot remember a time where I've ever refused product delivered via OTR. I usually note any damage on the BOL and contact the vendor who wants the product returned via LTL collect. Seems to me it's just "rude" to expect an OTR driver to store or trash damaged goods. It's common sense to realize an OTR driver doesn't have the means to store it and they won't be returning to the shipper anytime soon... if at all.
As a dock worker, our "freebie" from drivers always seems to be load locks that are forgotten on the dock. We usually add 10 or 12 a year to the pile. I've heard they sell well at truck stops. I'm about ready to take a few years worth out to the local Pilot, get on the CB, and make some cash.Civilservant Thanks this. -

I had a driver picking up the Regional Finals game floor and he got courtside tickets to a sweet 16 game. That was the coolest thing I've heard of.
