I ain't buyin half of this. While I was at Cedar Rapids Stunt Team, I met numerous guys that couldn't communicate well enough to find themselves a co driver. And CRST only runs team unless you are a O/O. Sounds to me like your buddy didn't want to run with you is the plain truth of it. If both of you were on trainer trucks then that means you didn't have a minimum of 6 months experience and so NO you are not allowed to drive solo at all. So I don't buy that your buddy just got throwed into a truck and started running coast to coast by himself. CRST is not a great company but my experience so far in trucking and life, is that a great deal of what happens to you is based on what you make of your situation. SO suck it up and go to another company, and avoid the teaming situation. However I can tell you that if you have a bill with CRST for training, then it might be tough finding a company that will touch you.

    Big John Thanks this.

If you have bills to pay you don't sit at home waiting for something to happen. It doesn't matter whom you get with you need to get to work. It sounds like you either quit or were fired from CRST. I can't imagine waiting at home for 5 weeks to get into a truck. If they can't get you a truck then you need to find another company that will hire you.

Different company, but I went to Swift orientation in 2007, was going to train my wife, having her go through their school. I was told there would be a 6-8 week wait after orientation, to get a truck... I asked why they're holding orientations without units to assign (within a few days, at least)?

They suggested I get a job at McDonalds, but have my bags packed, because when they called with a truck available, I needed to get there (Harrisburg) that day or I might be fired.

That was a Thursday. I was in orientation with Covenant on the next Monday.

My point is that unless someone is on the ball and putting this guy in a truck, doing the actual keystrokes on the computer, I don't think it's impossible for him to sit like this. It's totally WRONG in so many ways, but still.

There is absolutely NO reason to have drivers come to orientation and then go home for several weeks waiting for a truck. Most people will forget most of what was covered during orientation after a few weeks of non use.

The fact he wanted to run with his friends.. yer that could of been avoided, heck, being new (greeny/pup) to trucking, you should of really taken the work were you could.

Always op to do more work then they can assign you, even when they say "Okay that it for the day go home".. just ask if they got anything running that night, or early the next day.
If you guys cant handle being away from home for so long, but want to be a trucker, maybe your best off being a local driver not a lain haul driver (or interstate)

G/Man; the main reason I see for him staying at home for so long, is that he wanted to run with his friends, and not run with another driver, or solo (he said his friend finished school and was running solo already).

Without them having some knowledge or reputation as a driver, you shouldnt be asking for things like that, as they will burn you.
What would you say if you were in their shoes and had a brand new driver just out of training saying "I want to go with that driver".

Just next time please keep your options open, plus your friends may have a discussing habit you don't know of yet.

I've heard some nasty things about CRST, but I won't raconte them because I can't confirm them. I'll share one harmless one, which is that CR England and CRST are related companies.

My husband talked to a CRST driver who said that he was new, and he was solo, so I don't know about that one. Maybe he meant that he had other experience.

This story, I have to say, call the Obama Mortgage people or whatever they call it if you have to, call the utility companies and ask for an extension, then just get another job. As for the cost of school, it's whatever the contract you signed says. If you really think you've been screwed, a consultation with a lawyer won't cost much.

If you can't get a job anywhere else, go to Covenant. They'll hire anybody.*

    * so I've heard.

I understand that he wanted to run with his friend, but when you are behind on bills you get to work and worry about hooking up with your friend later. I might have waited for a few days, but not for several weeks, especially when you are about to lose your home.

I would get with CRST and see if they can put you with someone else. Just curious whether you were approached about going with another driver? It seems to me that if you don't have experience that it would be much better to go with an experienced driver where you can learn something and worry about getting with your friend later once you both have some experience.
