Or, you could buy a really nice house for about half and stay in hotels.

I've spent a night or two in something very similar.

I agree. Did a cross country trip back in '88, put a tent trailer on the back of the car and cruised around for 6 weeks, mostly staying at KOAs for the showers and convenience stores.

Since that trip my interest in campers/trailers has been close to zero other than as temporary housing to get on the property or one as a cheap guest house out back.

That trip also quenched my desire for most vacation type activities. For the past few decades, I have preferred to stay home and work on projects over "traveling vacations", exception being some convention type stuff like SEMA in Vegas.

My next door neighbor bought a trailer about 5 years ago. He's used it about 5 times. $10k, roughly.
So, I sez to the Hazul, "So, right now he's looking at about $1,000 a night."

For me, unless you use it A Lot, it's silly money and something to park in your backyard.

JolliRoger, Dflip, Oxbow and 10 others Thank this.

The tepee is a ton better than a hotel room working out of town, but the thought of hooking on and dragging it around to stay in the midst of the general public makes my hemorrhoid start twitching— much better to live close to the activity and make day trips

It's different for you because yours is a tool. Money well spent. But for the rest of them..... but I guess it's all about how you want to spend your money. And that's cool. I just never got it.
