armadillo can swim and like to swim. They have a special ability to create a ballast of air in their body that allow them float.

They are almost blind though, but can smell a grub that’s 6 inches or more underground.

They can also hold their breath for up to six minutes and walk under water.

 

And yet the "biologist" quoted in the article I read didn't seem to know that, asserting, in fact, that "armadillos can swim, but not very well".

So Joe Armadillo walks several miles upriver, floats his buoyant self across the Mississippi, hops a railcar, and by lunchtime he's chilling at the Legacy Pancake House in downtown Dayton, tucking in to a double order, and asking the staff where in town can an armadillo get some "action".
