Old mans observation, but here goes:
Men want to drive big trucks, make big bucks, see the country and be free of live supervision.
Also, must have cheap or free insurance, only new equipment, understanding dispatch. and routed in home each week or two by 5:00 Friday evening.
They do not understand that it don't work that way. Yet... Something has to give to reshape this ball of wax.
Less money, more time out. Reasonable cost sharing of the insurance premium but more complete coverage. 3 yr old cheaper brand well maintained trucks, with adequate gearing vs show trucks sagging with accessories. There are trade offs. One must decide just how bad they want it.
There is an axiom told me years ago that pretty well sums up today situation. It concerned one of the largest and most prosperous lawn mower manufacturers. It sums up in these words. "You can only pay a man just so much to put two wheels on one side of a lawnmower."
(I recall the mans name and the company. I'll have to do a little Excel with minimum wage, yearly increase, life expectancy to get you a basis of his statement.)Opus, BennysPennys, Dale thompson and 5 others Thank this. -
Well after discussing all available option with the Mrs. and my Dad... I think I'm still going with the welding job. In the long run it will be better overall. Ability to move up within the company, Ability to earn more long term. Spudnik is growing in leaps and bounds which will provide new opportunities as growth occurs. I thinkbi can probably be at or above that $26 within 2 years or so.
They dont have many guys that can weld stainless steel... And they recently purchased a trailer company and redesigned the stainless bulk trailers. I CAN weld stainless and therefore I think I'm going to try and get on the trailer line. I think this will give me a better chance to show my versatility and broad skill set.Feedman, Opus, BennysPennys and 15 others Thank this. -
