For some very informative insight on how politics play out, even in small towns. A woman buying a restaurant seeks to have the liquor license transferred.
Problem is she has a DUI from 18 years ago and is still driving with out license. In the process of divorcing her husband, he rats her out and causes a question on her getting the license. Cops have been aware. The new guy police chief becomes aware, goes judge shopping to an adjoining county to get a tame Magistrate (who has had 2 DUI's herself) to issue a search warrant.
Raid is made, it hits the fan, law ref search warrant is withdrawn. Mother of editor of the raided paper (98) dies of heart attack 2 days after her home is raided.
It also comes to light, the new guy chief (see thumbs in gun belt ready to draw in search video) left KC police at 65K a year to come down there at say $46K and some pending demotion due to some talk he spouted about a woman officer. The story gets really hilarious and will probably wind up in US Supreme on Freedom of Press litigation. Sorry for long outline, but it is worth following.
