Well first day of the new job is in the books... Most the day was orientation/safety crap. Hit the floor at 1400 built 4 heavy duty jacks and a tongue for conveyors. We actually buy the jack assembly then weld a bunch onto it to makebit suit our needs, so the jack assemblybis already painted. Burning through the paint is no problem... But the fumes it gives off are horrible, gave me a massive head ache. Tomorrow is going to be the real deal. 10.5 hours straight on the floor, two 15 min paid breaks, 30 min lunch. For a total of 10 paid hours.

2 others new hires with me today... A high school girl and a college girl, the former is a material handler, the later a welder. During introduction the safety guy asked if I had a bunch of weld experience... I replied that I probably had more time under a hood than either of the girls had walking upright. That got a few chuckles. Think I was the oldest person I saw until I got to the floor, and most them are younger than me too.
