Don't tarp cow trucks either and the loads walk on and walk off. Usually day, night, or quaint local holidays.... a tarp, it was the roof, and stayed up her.
Dog gotta have inbred smarts to handle what he grabs.

For a long time, like 12-15 years, all I had was 2 8’6” drop lumber tarps, and 1 18x18 machine tarp. Everything was under those. Talk about some work. Those things were like 120 lbs each.

Well said, no illusions. Stalwart. Not like Ed Rice wimping out in his resignation letter to the loan company where I replaced him...
"The glowing prospects outlined to me in my employment interview have failed to materialize, to say the least."

Do not remember the exact measurements as never had flat on ground level to measure. Knew better... But 34' tandem Fruehauf flatbed,
3 wide, 20 long, bales of compressed cotton, standing on end floored it. Would have been fitted to that, but hung 2' lower, sides , front rear flaps.
Now put the rest of the 65 /67 bale load. 3 parallels at rear, with remainder rolled crossway forward. Gave you a streamliner shaped load but a bit of tucking under along sides and F/R flaps. 1 chain from front tandem position up across front bales waist high to other side same. 2nd chain from landing gear position around back waist high to same other side. Have fork op stall his clamp up against the load while you worked the binders. That done toss 3rd chain over the rear stack and bind.
Pull out of the "slot" you backed into at the compress floor to load into yard. Go around it tying down 4' drops of 1/4 'grass rope to the rub rail. Get in and go....At delivery, untie drops, climb up and pull up each side, then flaps, folding to the middle. Start at front and roll it up to rear. Tell the fork op to set it off for you. Empty, have him pick it up and bring up to front, tuck 2 long chains and their binders inside, chain it down with the cross chain. Get in and come back.
Reverse at next loading. Did that a year with Riddell and never had the tarp on ground.
We hauled cement and sacked fertilizer . Unrolled on floor, hand truck loaded then. Folded in and overlapped well, flap over front, under rear.
Rode like a big loaf of bread. (MaHaffey Tent and Awning Co, Memphis, TN made some really good heavy canvas tarps back then.)
