Years ago this is one of the things that prompted me to get my own numbers. The company I was leased to was required to carry Workers Comp on us, and they passed the cost on to us. Wouldn't have been so bad except as a Sole Proprietor I couldn't collect if something happened.

Now that we have employees we obviously have A Workers Comp policy, but I'm not sure that our State Industrial Commision even accepts policies for an Owner Operator with no employees.

I wonder if a disability policy would qualify? Something like Aflack used to advertise that you could easily shut off when not needed?

Edit to add: I wonder if OOIDA has something affordable on a short term basis.

I'll look into OOIDA, hadn't thought of them. In KS, O/O's are exempt per State requirements, but companies can still require it and this is where the "ghost policy" comes in if I can find one. One outfit I did some work for accepted the exemption form as long as I could also prove I had personal medical insurance. Gotta love the red tape I suppose, lol.

I do some subcontracting with my tractor for different places and I talked to my insurance agent about WC insurance. We ended up with me having a 2mil. umbrella policy attached to my homeowners policy that covered workers compensation requirements. I'm not sure if that would work for you but it might.

I’m headed to Augusta and back today. Essentially adding 50% of my weekly miles in one day. Let’s see Dave do that.

OOIDA offers occupational accident. Not WC. OA is what I have even though under 3 employees are exempt in SC
