Local guy was a Field Tech @ CAT, quit and started a concrete company. Has 2 uncles that have decades of experience in all phases of construction with their company and they were "renting" him some equipment to start. Next thing you know he got the bid for Great Plains / Kubota new plant and poured thousands of yards of concrete, parking lots / R&D structures, etc. So he buys a used Mack concrete pumper and is ROLLING. Fast forward two years and he's bought four more new pump trucks, with three of them domiciled in Wichita. Buys new dozer, new excavator, new skid steers and attachments along with a new Dodge dually.....his #1 man stopped by the shop two weeks ago and told me he took bankruptcy, who could've seen that coming, lol. Rumor is he owes one concrete plant in town over $1M.....went from 0 to 150 in 3 years and flamed out hard. I did some hauling for him a couple winters ago and he took forever to pay me, so was always busy when he called. Phone rings last week and he wants a load of salt and some 3" minus....couldn't imagine how long he would've strung me out now that he's broke, so I declined. 20220917_095835.jpg

Spent 20 years on my own and it was the best and worst times I ever had — at almost 62 I still have the itch to say F’it and jump down the rabbit hole— maybe I’ll get over it when I hit 70

The owner of the GC on the one that burnt down told me," Be patient. If you file a lien against me, I'll bond around it, and you'll never get your money."

I had to provide a payment and performance bond to the tune of a cost to me of around $15k, to assure that I will pay all my bills and construct tbe project. They should have to provide a payment bond to the contractors.

Ok, maybe now I can quit whining.

Did the same and got every one of the vendors and subs paid in full — took 5 years to do it and it broke us, but I can go anywhere in the Ho and look any MF’er in the eye— others can’t say that
