Don’t know what he has, but I have a soundbar with separate speakers and that’s what I have to turn down the volume when commercials come on and then turn it back up when the show comes back on.
Don’t know if it has anything to do with it?

If you think you need hearing aids; and are not VA qualified/or your employer//insurance offers a certain brand, just shop and compare.
Any hearing service will offer free tests. Go in and get tested. Prepare to act the rube, be nice and leave with data. It is fun to observe them.
Ask them to explain and show you the graph they made of how you responded to the different tones.
Should be on an 8.5 x11 paper, charted from top left to bottom right...(Landscape) with various low points creating a sag or drop.
Mine would show steady decline for about half way down; sag, then pick back up and continue on.
It meant: and I knew this, that I could hear certain levels of tones fine for a range, then I had a range I did not, then I was fine with the rest.
Ask (I did and got) for a copy of it. Go to the next place and repeat. Compare their charts and they should be very similar, you can tell.
Now you know you have a problem for sure, then can decide on what to try. Most will let you use a set for a month and buy or return. No cost....
Buying a set of cheap or most expensive is foolish. If they are not CAPABLE of COVERING your range of loss, they will not help you.
Now a sample.
A man here in town asked; me like one did here, about the ones I had. He is a known wealthy man (3 car dealerships). His problem was he had this large motor home, and while traveling could not/did not hear his wifes instruction from her passenger seat. I told him like the above. Time passed.
At coffee several weeks later he told me. I went to see the lady at Starkeys. Oh, did she fix you up OK? No, he replied, very nice lady and printed my results.
So why not. Well, she explained I did have "Some" hearing loss. but consistent. She said my problem was that a woman's voice is softer in pitch than a mans, and my wife was farther from me in the motorhome and it's noise level was higher than in an auto. Mr. ??, Hearing aids are not the answer. You will hear her, but all the passing traffic on your driver side and the engine. So, adjust for her to speak louder as you travel.....Come see me in a year or so.Feedman, austinmike, Dale thompson and 7 others Thank this.
