I have no dog in this fight.....As a Viet Nam "era" Vet there're 2 classifications of service. Combat in country and non combat service out of country. It's that simply.

the best ice maker is a rinsed out plastic milk jug filled about 80% then frozen and cut the top off and an ice pick to bust up the ice.

There is nothing wrong with any service. Combat or otherwise. All swore the same oath. But for context read this. And then tell me if I am wrong for being a wee bit pissed off. And that he isn’t claiming to be a combat vet? And a ##### combat medic at that.

My father was a WWII vet - he was an anti-tank gunner in the 96th division on Leyte and Okinawa. My brother and I were Viet Nam vets. I was a medic and my brother was part of the squadron that mined the harbor in Hiphong in 68. My son was in the 3rd division in the 1st Gulf War. So, Yeah, I can say the same.

Don’t piss down my back and tell me it’s raining

Nope, not anymore. As of at least 15 years ago, anyone between somewhere back in the 50s to May 7 1974 regardless of station you are a Viet Nam vet to the government. Told that tool to just call any VA office or medical clinic and ask. Too much work for him I guess. He would rather rage about the injustice of it all. As I said earlier, I always said I was a Viet Nam ERA vet until the VA itself corrected me. I personally dont care one way or the other. Just saying what the VA told me to say.

This is right out of the VA website: (I cant find a similar one for Viet Nam - but by what the people at the VAMC told me its the same thing, different dates)
    Gulf War Veterans - Veterans
More than 650,000 Service members served in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm from August 2, 1990 to July 31, 1991. For VA benefits eligibility purposes, the Gulf War period is still in effect. This means that anyone who served on active duty from August 2, 1990, to present is considered a Gulf War Veteran. For example, the Veterans Pension benefit requires service during a wartime period. Therefore, any Veteran who served on active military service for any period from August 2, 1990, to the present meets the wartime service requirement.

I mean there is a page for it, but it isnt as crystal clear about it as the Gulf War one is.
    Vietnam Veterans
But again, according to what the VA told me, its the same thing.

My son is a Gulf war vet. 10% disability even. Hes never been in combat either.

Not so much the job, it's the HIDES surrounding me.

Also, Missus Skillet is having a tough week, having turned 65 the day before yesterday.

My driver's license expires next month, I need fingerprints taken for TWIC and hazmat renewal, and I just had to reschedule a doctor's appointment for the FOURTH time because I won't be home..... probably something else I'm forgetting, too.

Oh, yeah. Missus Skillet wants (me) to clean out the garage.

    All this in 48 hrs.

Not a downward spiral, just a temporary mental/emotional hiccup.

I still have cheap cookies that I got for free, so there IS that......
