Traffic started backing up and slowed to about 30 between rawlins and Wamsutter. Wamsutter was completely inundated with trucks... Looked like a war time production facility punching out a truck every 30 seconds... But the trucks weren't going anywhere. Several miles later traffic opened up some and was smooth sailing to Rock Springs. Got caught in that backup for the jack-knifed truck. I was at a complete stop at MM 99... The crash was at MM 87. Both lanes were completely packed with trucks. Ive never seen so many truck in my life.
(If you look closely you can see the faint red line of tail light in the top of the pic)
I got off at MM 91 and ran WY 374 through Green River all the way to Little America. It was nice and peaceful all by myself on the road. Traction was WAY better on 374 than I-80 as well, was easily able to do 50 mph. Thus got me around a good portion of the back up.
US30 from I-80 to I-15 was actually pretty nice. A few slick patches but nothing like I-80 between Rawlins and Green River. Several times in the backup I spun a tire on hills so small you could barely tell it was a hill.
There were also 2 truck wrecks coming down Sherman into Laramie. Then all the crazies decided to pack both lanes, nose to tail. So I took US 30 to Sinclair.
Used the adverse driving exemption to get the extra 1.5 hours I needed to make it home. I pulled into the Yard at 0330. Dropped my trailer pushed my paperwork under the office door and hit the bunk for a few hours nap before going home.
That is the first MAJOR winter time traffic backup I've ever been in. Glad to be home. I get to go back the WY tomorrow night.FerrissWheel, Dave_in_AZ, Rocks and 5 others Thank this. -
