Tractor still a no go. Heat pad and propane herman nelson still not enough. Need moar heat, secured an 80,000 BTU kerosene fired heater and ducting. Then went on the search for a parachute. Found one on good ol FB marketplace an hour or so away in the next province over, contacted the fella and he says it's yours and marked the listing as pending. Agreed to meet me just across the border in Alberta, met up with him and scooped a 33' military chute for $200. We get to talking, he's a veteran, helicopter pilot. Served in Somalia and some other way over there sandbox countries. Survived a chopper crash but it wrecked his left arm. Still has it but it's just there for looks from the elbow down. He asks me if I have any need for a 60' chute, I tell him not really, he says he threw it in just in case and after BS'ing with him for about a half hour he says "ah, just take it. I want it out of the barn." So I got 33' and a 60' canopies. That f%*#@*g tractor will be running tomorrow. Supposed to warm up to a balmy -20C, -6F. T shirt weather. And another 6 more days of snow.

Maybe I should explain the parachute thing, if you lay one over top of a piece of equipment, secure the edges and add heat, it will puff up like a hot air balloon. And warm up whatever is inside of it. Old school mechanics have been doing that up here in extreme cold temps for decades on crawlers, trucks, excavators...all the things that don't do well once they shut off in the cold.

I have a friend that had never been on an airplane. Until he went skydiving. Now he's flown in a plane, but never landed in one.
