Yeah— right up until the part where you loose it— buddy of mine snow checked a V-Max back in the day and it arrived in a crate mid summer— we were all helping him reroof his cabin one weekend and at some point he got to bragging about what a beast it was and of course we challenged him to prove it— there may or may not have been some alcohol involved in the un-crating and start up process— anyway, we all arrived lakeside to watch the show and he did pretty good until he let off the throttle and it submarine’d on him— luckily it was only in about 20’ of water and retrieval was possible— sled never did run correctly after that

Funny thing, in the summer festival (PeaceFest) here they have a competition where they run sleds across the river in a timed event. My buddy bought a brand new 1996 Yamaha V Max 600 and entered, it also sank. I was running a '96 Ski Doo MXZ 583 and zipped across like nobody's business. I think there's something with the Yammie design that inhibits watercrossing without some mods. It just never got on top, ran about 200 feet and you could tell it wasn't going to end well. I think I even have video of it somewhere.

They were fast on the flats but pigs in the powder— RMKs and Summits have been the sleds of choice for those that hookiebob in the steep and deep

I used to be a hardcore mountain guy. 2008 was my last new sled, an 800 Summit X. Even since then the sleds have evolved so much it's insane, and the biggest reason I got out of it. Now any clown can go spend 30K and ride where he has no business going. I dug out three people from avalanches, and the third guy didn't make it. I hung up the mtn gear after that trip. Turned my beloved Summit into an ice fishing machine, put the wide A arm kit back on and installed a heavy duty hitch. I miss it, but when you are in a situation where you see someone's life in danger you are obligated to help. I don't know if you've ever shovelled avalanche debris but it's hard work and your adrenaline keeps you going far longer than you should. Almost killed me, I was sore for a week after each time and I called it after my good friend never made it home to his family. Just too many idiots out there nowadays, and I don't want to be a part of it. I had a good run, was doing it since the 80's with old modded out fan cooled leaf sprung sleds and when they started getting mountain specific I'd buy a new one every year. Now I just spend money on motorcycles lol.

My first one was a Polaris Colt in about 75 and the last was an 09 Summit XP — sold it in 16 for the same reasons— I been getting the itch again for the last couple years and if I pull the trigger it’ll be something like a Skandic for fooling around— mountain sleds are definitely a thing of the past
