But the people who make the rules do not understand it because they never had to use it. It would be like a truck driver making regulations for brain surgeons but never doing brain surgery or studying in a medical field at the very least. Completely unqualified. I think people in power should have some type of qualifications to hold a certain position. Especially when it comes to creating laws that me you and everybody else out there on the road bet our working life on. Because at the end. Of the day we have no power and we will have to do watever they say. Thats why i believe they should be qualified . its not so much of making it more beneficial more in the tune of making regulations more effective and realistic. For example the 30 min break is the biggest waste of time known to man, and i dont feel any more or less safe if i take it or if i didnt take it . but yet its the law so we have to do it .Just my 2 cent

I am saying what my friend told me... he showed the new screen on Peoplenet after this ELD change... the change of status page and told me that now they have to put themselves on duty in order to get the forms they need to fill in the inspection information... he was in the sleeper so he couldn't show me everything.. . This is new.. we didn't have to do that before. All we used to do was to click on duty and do the inspection and then put back off duty after done... And we would send a DVIR before driving...
It looked now is more time consuming on duty...

Yes I did because it was required by the company. Back in 2007 we were riding wild then few bad wrecks and DOT and insurance audit. After one more wreck insurance demanded ELD. They installed PeopleNET. Personally I found it as the good help to drivers. Just hit the button and write comments. We didn't lost money.

I don't know what they are using now for I am not there.. this change happened a couple days ago.. and I am in Brasil... my friend showed me some but not all via Whatsapp video today.
It looks to me is much more time demanding now.. and yeah... a pain in the but....:angry2:
What kind of ELD do you have? I remember when I was using Qualcomm with another company... it was so much easier and simpler... I HATE PLEOPLENET...
In my former company, we are/were supposed to spend at least 10 mins on duty for pre trip... I heard that 7 minutes would be still ok with DOT... never had any problems with them... :biggrin_25512:

    WesternPlains and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

I was the Queen of the Inspection in my former company... :yes2557:
Nobody did inspections like I did... no matter what the log said.. I took all the time I needed to make sure the equipment was up to my standards and DOT standards...

I understand your perspective and agree with it to a certain extent.

I read someplace that the truckers HOS regulations were based off of the railroad HOS that the railroad unions negotiated (back in the '30s?) on behalf of the engineers. I believe that the truckers HOS rules would make sense in a closely monitored union type environment. Most of us do/did not operate in those conditions. The 30 minute rule is a prime example of a union perspective rule that fails miserably in a non-union workplace. One of the major points of disconnect is compensation. Piece work paying by the mile will never play well with the time management style H.O.S. The systems are only overlapping by brute force of law.

But until you can get the regulators convinced that trucking is not shift-work and should not be regulated in the same manner as shift-work the regulations will continue to be problematic. Best think the regulators could do is ignore the Teamsters when it comes to any driving job that requires a log book.
