A local auto parts store has a set of rotors on display even worse than that... Only the heat fins in the middle are left. I asked how someone managed to let it get that bad. The salesman said "The guy said: My son didnt think the noise was that bad... He just kept turning up the stereo more."

Holy ####. My daughters cars rear caliper started grinding. Told her just be careful, try to ignore the sound. I’ll fix it next week, when I’m home. That night, my wife and I were walking through the French Quarter. I noticed a brake pad in the street. It was an Omen. Next day, daughter calls and says, something fell off the brakes. Oops!! When I did the brakes, the caliper outer fingers were riding the rotor, no pad at all. Caliper was still good, since it just floats anyways. But I honestly never saw saw a brake pad fall out before.

My cousin had a problem with warped rotors on his Honda. Replaced them, about a month later, pedal starts gyrating again. Cheap rotors. We jacked it up, bolted the rotors on without a wheel. My Uncle hit it with a grinder, while my cousin gave it the gas. Lol. It worked.

That’s crazy!! Here I thought I was bad. I don’t hesitate to let them grind a bit, till I get time. Since rotors are so cheap anymore, and best to replace them anyways, at least every other time on the front. That takes the cake!!!

I tell my wife "If your car makes ANY funny noise, vibration, bump, thump, grind or even feels different some day to IMMEDIATLY let me know... Even if she thinks its nothing. This has saved me thousands of dollars.

Most recently she said "My car seems a tiny bit sluggish from a stop, amd it makes a tiny bump noise that I can feel... But it only does it when I start from a complete stop."

I was 2 days from home and I told her DONT DRIVE IT, unless someone is dying! Turned out she had a small leak in a transmission cooler line and it was really low on ATF. $300 to have the line replaced + $50 for 4 quarts of the most expensive ATF known to man.
