What is so elusive. If it is burning you have heat. If it isnt burning throw on more gasoline

Ours were always covered in sand, and it seemed like there was always some jackwagon who would open a hopper bottoms too wide and sand the belt off.

So those of you that have experience with using wood chips to smoke meat... I got to thinking that I might be able to do that by placing the soaked chips beneath the grill on the hub of the rim where the holes for the studs are at. Obviously this wood be done after getting a good hot fire going and bulding a good bed of coals inside the stove (beneath the hub), then maintaining a low fire.

Do y'all think this would work???

I do, but, when you're smoking you really want a low fire. Unless, your trying to grill and get extra smoke flavor,in this case it would also work but, you'll be going through a lot of chips. If you smoke slower, with a lower heat, be sure to add a lid. It'll give the smoke time to soak in.

I would find an appropriate diameter can/tube to fit down in the hub hole.

Fill with chips and water to soak then put the whole thing in there after the coals are warm and banked.

Get a bit of steam as the water evaporates and then comes the smoke. The amount of time you get smoke will be longer cause it will be slowed down by the water that must evaporate.

Don't over think it. Heck one place sold wood chips put in Tuna cans. Triangular church-key punch to the top to fill with water in the morning, set with the banked coals, cover the grill and walk away
