You running US 36??? I've run that road many, many times, way less stress than either 80 or 70.

I happened to stop for fuel at the same truck stop he parked. I saw him carry a bag inside, I presume for a shower. I didn't follow him to see if his butt cheek was branded with "SWIFT" like the rest of his equipment.

 

First big truck was a '56 5 ton Chevy with a 5×4, then a Ford 9000 with a 13 speed, then a '74 Mack with a Super 10... But of all the trucks ive driven over the years this one was the Crown Jewel...


W900L, 3406E, and an 18 speed... Ungoverned wide open it would do 105 on the flats... Maybe a scoshe more.

I used to live in Waltham (2007-2011). That’s actually one of the better towns outside of Boston.lol

 

Found a good Steakhouse. Looked very accessible on the satellite image. Got there and the driveway was tight, and big incline. Snap decision time. Drive forever down the 2 lane trying to turn around, or go for it. I went for it. Dragged that 45k up there. Drives started spinning. Stopped and Locked them in. Had a couple customers just getting out of their car giving Us dirty looks. He had on a green vest that said DOT on the back. He was one Proud Road Worker. I got distracted and offended by the dirty looks, and had it hopping and stalled it out. They stopped and watched, lips flapping heads shaking. Most excitement they’ve had in a while. Something to talk about after Church on Sunday. I started it up, creeper gear, using the trolley bar, stalled it again. 3rd time was a charm, had to give it some fuel. Got parked, wife was a bit worried, asked what I was going to do if they say something stupid. I told her don’t worry, I’ll tell them mind their Business. She comments, the Lady looked pretty mean, not sure I could whoop her. We went in requested a seat away from them. Had a great meal. Owner came out, was very nice. I assured her I can get out without damaging anything. She said call next time, they’ll pick us up at the Truckstop. Paying their bill, I heard them complain. Lady did the crazy sign to the cashier on her way out. Lol. She has no idea. They can kiss my foot. Just glad I put in a HD clutch. Wonder I didn’t break something. Good times!!

 

Dave, question, I'm a fellow Phoenician and I'm in the process of applying for Landstar once again. I'd love to mine you for some info but this right here had me wondering: where is the Landstar yard in Phoenix and can you park your car there? From the way you're describing it, probably not.
