if you've worked for yourself for a very long time... doing freelance work on your own etc.... does that matter much ?

Yet you get your CDL, have a clean driving record and no criminal history...

what type of driving job would be most easiest to get or expect to have once out of school....

TMC Trans will most likely hire you. When applying any ware, put "Freelance doing ______" and the years you were freelance. Most will want to see a 10 year work history, but working for yourself is work and can be listed.

Any company will require proof to satisfy FMCSA regulations. This can be accomplished by tax returns all the way down to a neighbor signing a notarized statement.

The whole purpose of this is to satisfy the old ways of drivers having multiple CDL's. It's been awhile but drivers use to lose their CDL and go to the next state and get another. CDLIS has stopped that problem but the gov't is still picky about what you've been doing in the past.

If you have no work history just list what you have been doing. Someone will hire you.

Work history requirements below. Not required, but companies want it for CYA.

For CDL driving history, 10 years is required. For non-CDL jobs, 3 years is the max required.

    More info:

    1. This thread is trying to get information on driving with NO EMPLOYMENT HISTORY except "handy man" type self employment. As was stated by Condo...tax records will suffice for proof of work, along with a neighbor or two that will verify such existence.

    2. Your links to FMCSA say nothing anywhere about any DOT required 10 YEAR HISTORY...everything is 3 years, both CMV and non driving positions.
