If you are not driving there is (or was) a way to put your CDL on “hold” so you don’t need to do the med card, 30 days after ex it gets down graded

a word here about the "excepted" category..

it cannot be used in my state, unless one is a state employee.

or an emergency qualified/licensed person such as fire fighter, engineer (driver)

very limited "exception", in my state, maybe some others.

Ok, so to clarify regarding TN., By simply certifying Option 2, your CDL for non-excepted interstate commerce will be put on "pause" indefinitely until whenever you decide to submit a valid DOT medical card? This Option 2 prevents the driver from having to redo everything (back to getting a permit, knowledge test, skills test and road test at the dmv)?

Well, this certainly means one should choose wisely where they go to get their CDL.

no, it means that one should keep mindful on his/her expiration dates on both his/her CDL and DOT card.

where one lives is not the issue.

    an asinine comment by you

Not asinine. You just don't understand the comment. Some of us are residents overseas and not currently living in the US for whatever reason. In my personal situation, I would not fly all the way back there just to get a DOT physical, nor do I have to, because I was lucky enough to get my CDL from a state that will allow me to self-certify for excepted interstate commerce.

    1) not all states do that exception

    2) when a person is obtaining his/her CDL, the last thing if anything they think about is that exception

    3) get real with your comments, you sound like you talk out of your butthole.

All the states seem to be doing that. If I am not home, I find a place that does DOT physicals. I deop my trailer and bobtail there, get the physical and email the MVA and they update your status.

Here’s my Med card story: My medical was up in September of 2020. I don’t know how the rest of the country works, but in the Peoples Republik of Kommifornia, where I live, your medical is online. When you go get your test, if you pass, they register it for you with dmv, and the feds. Or so you think. The Dr that did mine said that he would turn it in, and away I went. 16 months later, I decided to start my Authority, as to I was just hauling my own equipment from job to job, and now I decided to run commercially. Well, the compliance company that I contracted with notified me that my medical expired two days after I took my test, in 2020. The ####### never turned it in. I was able to get a copy of my test, and email it to the dmv. Thankfully I didn’t lose my license. So, fellow Komrads of Kommiefornia, double check after you do your medical!!

Yes. BUT YOU CANNOT USE YOUR CDL PRIVILEGES UNTIL YOU HAVE A VALID MEDICAL EXAM.
