I have 20 years exp. Alot of the things you learned should have been taught in truck school and in your training with a truck company, but training has gone to #### so it's not your fault, when you go solo you should be honing your skills and learning everything they didn't teach you ,keep in mind technology changes the industry different companies have trucks and trailers with different features , pay used to be % of gross, fair CPM but now there are many ways to screw a driver like % of linehaul which is alot less than gross , lease purchase has a 75% failure rate, 1099 is for O.O.s has no benefits for W-2 drivers, good luck.Last edited by a moderator: Dec 28, 2024

Some of them, my favorite ones, would have snappy comebacks and one-liners ready.

What are you doing driving around on a football field?

Trucking in the 70s was a little different.Wargames, Gearjammin' Penguin, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this.

Right, take a test at the DMV for Chauffeurs License then go to about any trucking company and be hired.
No road test or physical, just a 15 or 20 question multiple choice test and you're a trucker.born&raisedintheusa and Star Rider Thank this. -
Things I learned:
1. If shes got all her teeth, she's not a lot lizard, she's an undercover cop.
2. Owner operators aren't necessarily better at driving than I am.
3. Showers in truck stops really aren't clean.
4. Don't be afraid to speak up if they are giving you a load that you know won't get you home on time.
5. If you hit it and nobody saw or heard, you didn't hit it. Same with the whole "tree falling in the woods" thing.
6. Some no truck roads are only set up that way because of local ordinances. You might very well have to go down one to deliver or pick up.
7. Don't assume your dispatcher knows what they are doing or that they are telling you the truth.
8. Don't assume your dispatcher cares about you.
9. Don't assume your company cares about you.
10. Don't assume TTR cares about you.born&raisedintheusa, lual, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this. -
How to politely tell some strange giraffe ###ed looking female I am not interested in her "company". They don't take it to kindly when you make inferences to their profession or the diseases they could carry.
born&raisedintheusa, hope not dumb twucker, Star Rider and 1 other person Thank this. -
I was just watching the movie "Last Detail" and sitting there drinking a beer mug of wine. The wife walked in and said, "Why are you grinning and smirking?" I said "Aw, nothin'". That movie brought back some great memories. The actors ribbon racks put it in perspective. Memories of the days of the Chauffeurs License back then also.
