What is a good 401k match for truckers?

The very reason you diversify. Never put more than 50% in stocks.

 

Go to a financial planner, or read up. This is too important for amateur advice.

 

Traditional 401k you pay taxes when you start drawing from it. ROTH IRA you will pay taxes now.

I've heard pros and cons to both. That's not the only distinction. Do some research on them and pick the one that works for you. I'm a ROTH guy, but have read good arguments for traditionals.

 

Every financial advisor I know and have employed has told me to diversify, however they have also said they are cautious about setting up percentage's. Because percentage's can change based on which market segment you are in. In other words its not the market as a whole, it's the segment. In my case I was too heavily invested in a single segment. This is why I beg and plead with people that have extra cash to get PROFESSIONAL ADVICE!!!!

The other 50 should be in something guaranteed. Bonds, etc. Stocks are a crap shoot.

 

I think you misunderstood my comment. I am not using actual numbers, example only. Some advisors will say have no more the 30% in market tech stocks. or have at least 60% in oil company stocks. this is what I was saying. using a flat % is not what savvy advisors say. In fact I was communicating with my investment counselor on Monday, we were discussing me getting more invested in a company. These segments change all the time with investment company's like the Vanguard Group.

 

Your age is also a factor. The older you are the less risk you should take. Of the 50% in stocks, that can also be spread with tech, commodities, etc.

 

You seem hung up on that 50% thing. This is OK and is your right. For the record I am somewhere close to 43% in stocks. If I make this change I spoke of I will up this to about 47%. I am 60 and disabled.
