Buy a truck and lease on (not lease purchase) with a specialized carrier of some sort like dry bulk or liquid tanks, someone that has a ton of direct customers and contract freight. Yes when the spot market is high you will have to listen to everyone and their stories of $5 a mile dry van freight but when the spot market is down you will still be plugging along making decent money on the contract rates the company has.

1.50/mi all hub miles leased on with no deduction but fuel. You supply plate, bobtail, collision insurance. That’s an example of what my company does.

Percentages don’t really matter as it depends how well the company does. Kinda like a shot in the dark. I proposed a minimum pay per week for owner ops the other day and it was shot down quick.

So, you’ll just have to call companies and talk to them. Ask to talk to someone who is been an owner op with them. See what they say and what they make.

Poor guy. No one has yet to point him to the $2.00 per mile pot of gold.

I could understand that. Always wondered why all the Mega Carriers love to run the northeast, maybe that is why? I hate going to the northeast though.

Yeah if I do buy a truck it will be through a bank. Leasing from anywhere, whether third party or carrier is too #### ridiculous of a price to pay. Even if I got hit 30% interest I am sure I would still be paying less per month to a bank than I would to some leasing company.

Oh, I wasn't really expecting anybody to point me to $2. Just about any Craigslist site could reveal those $2.26/mi avg. flatbed companies out of the chicago area. You know, the ones you can't understand a #### word they say on their phone because their accent is so strong?

Supply the plate? So you have your own authority or just run intrastate? Or is there a way to get apportioned plates on your own without DOT authority?

How about any rate you are making profit your ok with. It's the free market they say. If people spec a truck for MPG you have better chance of make more money for yourself. Their are so many variables

Own authority interstate. Basically, you take your lease agreement with the company your leasing into and go to the department of revenue and they sell you a plate.

i really can’t help but laugh at the whole mpg thing, yea it’s the biggest expense but it’s also a 100% tax write off, there’s a lot more to running a truck then fuel but if you run cheap I guess you really have no choice but to pinch pennies,

I would think with the slightly lesser cost of leasing you would still need to be over $2 a mile to make money, own authority will be closer to $3, however, my #1 customer pays me within 7 days, so i will work a little bit cheaper for them as I’m not waiting/chasing money around. Everyone will have different exact numbers though

So if someone walked up and offered you a check for $10k you’d turn it down so you don’t have to pay taxes on it? Fuel mileage is free money, and if you get higher than 6 mpg the fuel surcharge actually works for you.

I absolutely would take it, and I would put the vast majority of it right back into the business in one way or another to minimize the taxes on it anyway, if your only making money off the surcharge you probably have bigger issues then fuel, I’m not driving a plastic #### box nor am I sweating/freezing my ### off sleeping in a truck to save a few pennies at the end of the year
