I have roughly a year and a hlaf experience and have been trying to get hired at some OTR companies and have been kinda hitting a wall. I did get hired at a local company but am unhappy with alot of their practices. The ticket itself is considered a "Reckless Driving" (15 over posted). Its a B.S. ticket given on a hill with malfunctioning brakes but alas the courts didnt see it that way. I am mostly just curious if maybe somebody could point me in the direction of a GOOD company that can overlook my past.
Thanks in advance
What is a good pay scale for Newbie with 1 major ticket.

That sucks. I have a misdemeanor on my record and it caused some issues finding a job

It's probably too late now, but you should always do everything in your power to keep from having a conviction like that show up on your record. Too many guys just pay tickets and then worry about it later. Always try to negotiate a different charge, even if it costs more money and even if you have to hire a lawyer.
And DTBrat is right. The brakes were your responsibility. So if you try to use that as an excuse, you are effectively confessing to another violation that you weren't even charged with. If you come to me looking for a job, that excuse sure as hell won't help you any.
You're probably stuck now with bottom feeder companies until you get some more time behind you. Or else you could try to find a local lawyer that might can still get it changed for you. Sometimes, some of the locals can do things that out-of-town lawyers can't do.
But, the big lesson learned for you should be this one:
If you're serious about being a truck driver and making good money, don't ever pay a ticket like that until you have exhausted all other options. Try to negotiate a different charge, no matter what it costs.
I don't care if it costs twice as much and ends up showing as a gay prostitution conviction - DO NOT PAY A TICKET LIKE THAT!Everett, LoneWolf902 and DickRammer Thank this. -
A reckless driving violation can be a career stopper. Your attitude and failure to take responsibility is causing you as much trouble as the ticket. If you plan to be a professional driver you must drive like one and take responsibility for your failure to do so.
With all due respect, it is not a BS ticket. You are responsible for your speed on level ground, uphill and downhill. If you were operating a vehicle with defective brakes that is another offense and in no way excuses speeding.
You need to accept responsibility for your actions and lose the excuses if you hope to get a decent job. Many companies won't hire you with that violation until it is at least three years old. Most won't hire you if you make excuses. -
Over 15 over is a BIG no-no in trucking.

On another subject, I see a few people here say how they have misdemeanors or felonies that are preventing them from finding jobs. My record is clean and I am having a problem finding a job too! So what does society expect from people who made mistakes in the past? To go on welfare and live in the projects and become a full time criminal?

Thanks everyone i do appreciate the feedback. Also wanted to clarify a few things that i may not have made clear.
First: i assumed/assume full responsibility when talking to companies/courts/DOT/anybody. I know it was my fault and i should've been a better driver about the whole thing
Second: I understand that the brakes are my responsibility, and know that as an "excuse" it wont hold water. The brakes tried giving out as i was on my way to the shop at the end of said day. I was "limping it home" as per dispatch directions. It seems to me that the only way to keep brakes working correctly on an Oilfield Dirt Truck is to get under the tractor/trailer at EVERY stop sign. lol
Third:The only reason i made "excuses" on this forum is because its what i THINK not what i SAY. I understand that the ticket is entirely my fault, and when talking to companies i admit to the mistake and try to charm them with my other beneficial traits.
Also, Dogknot Is it too late to do anything about it on my record if i "just payed it to be done with it"? Which was advice given to me from my father who still thinks its the 70s and logbooks and tickets dont mean ####.lol
Thanks again everyone who replied, your comments mean a lot to me and really do appreciate them.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
Besides, they'd just want you in the office.
