It depends. My cousin was a 40 year steel hauler and proud of it . He had a special load bar made 30 odd years ago by a customer of theirs. He used that till the day he retired. I always thought it would be nice to get it chromed and put it on a nice plaque to hang in the shop or basement.

Take the stick out of his truck and have it bronzed and turn it into a walking cane

Perhaps a very detailed metal replica of his favourite truck? I've seen a few different types: Heavy Haulers, with jeeps, loboy sand boosters, carrying an 8x8 bed truck with floater tires. Different people react differently. If he's been there 45 years he most likely is a decent fellow and is not likely expecting very much.

The OP was from "fellow drivers". To me, fellow drivers and farewell gifts are different than a company and driver farewell. If he had worked for me for 45 years I'd be doing something fairly decent for him. After all, he must have done something fairly decent or he wouldn't have been there 45 years.

That's #### fine idea. The way I see it, buying something for him is the easy route kinda. But to put together a memory filled video of sorts thatll be there forever with him. All the possessions in the world will get old and tarnished, it's the memories that we can hold forever and they will be there like yesterday.
