What is a good starting pay for a new CDL holder?

If you’re OTR, think about this, even if you get 3000 miles (which you won’t), you still won’t make $1500 a week but you probably worked over 70 hours and slept in a can everyday for a month.

 

Yes, I left money on the table with kllm by taking hometime; I very rarely got the production bonus, is that bonus still a thing for otr with the feb changes? I also took another pay-cut switching to dedicated. I’m more laissez-faire and didn’t like hustling with dispatch to get better loads. I still make more and get more time off with same trk then other comparable companies (and I’ve been looking for one with more time off with same trk, swapping trucks is a pita).

I’ve offered our suits 2-2.5 mos for 2 weeks off (keep same trk and not clean out), but nada. I did come across a small outfit recently that meets my wants, but in this economy I feel safer with a larger company. My family takes years to make simple decisions, and I’m not an exception.

 

What area do you live in? I bet there are some solid regional type companies that will do you pretty well in giving you what you truly want while also having a stable freight base.

 

I’m in south Indiana; I was interested in our Midwest regional until I was informed a trk downsize was in order (I have too much stuff). I also declined the groveport acct, I don’t like that area of the Midwest… i70 corridor from Indy to i76, the i75/65 corridors, Chicago, and the SE… Kentucky, i64, and toll road are exceptions and I can certainly tolerate going thru the Midwest but I’ve got just as much desire to bounce around the Midwest as I do the Southeast, which is none… but I was willingly to give our Midwest regional a shot to see if it stayed more to the west of i65 or went more through to PA.

I’m on Saputo and I typically go from KY to CA to PA/NY and back to CA; sometimes I get upper Midwest (Wisconsin), Texas, or southeast thrown in between loads going to CA.
