Arrive at yard do a COMPLETE pretrip replace any lights out. Notate as pretrip.
Every stop check lights, check connections, check pins, clean windows as needed. Notate all as intertrip.
Every day oil checks, thump tires, air leaks check, brake check, check under the hood including belts.
Put in a post trip Everytime we drop off trailers. Redo a COMPLETE pretrip Everytime we pick up a new set.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
And of course, that's compounded by hordes of lazy "out of sight out of mind" drivers who don't believe in filling out accurate DVIRs, so you could wind up with a trailer that mysteriously had the air sucked out of two tires by the concrete apron. -
Mike2633 and Rusty Trawler Thank this.

For every wheel... the tester was trying not to crack up by the end of it.
For real tho, I do pretrip good. I make sure no one pulled my 5th wheel and that all my tires are still full. Once in a while I'll check everything.... That's in the morning though. I pretrip the #### out of every trailer. That's including stealing the valve stem caps from trailer next to me. Thanks swift! -

Never mind not properly filling out DVIRs, we had guys who didn't even do post trips after their run; worst example I have, I was getting ready to hook to my route trailer one morning, it was still being loaded at the dock. I did a precursory walk-around of the trailer (I always do my final walk-around when I pull away from the dock), and noticed something hanging down...it was one of the brake cans hanging by the air lines and push rod. The can had completely broken away from it's mount, and the line driver drove from wherever with it hanging down.
Oh, and there was the time my dispatcher asked me to grab an empty set and take it to a customer. I found one prehooked, only to find out both trailers were defective. I tagged them, and went to talk to my dispatcher.
As I was talking to him, I watched another driver hook up to the set, look at the tags, and pull them off. My dispatcher called him on the phone, "Uhh, you're not going to take those trailers, are you???"
Driver quickly unhooks from the set.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
