Always been afraid of the mythical Super 10s. If faced with the prospect of driving one I am not sure what I would do.

No need to be, it's just a 13 speed case with two less gears in the main box and a fancy shift tower. By far the nicest ten speed to drive, you never move the lever if you stay above 35 mph.

Sounds like the old "R" gear ratio set. Eaton offered the same transmission. Run through the first four gears in low/high range and then into 9th.

Drove one of those... It was almost like a split between 8th and 9th, rather than a whole gear. Which was great until you had to drop to 7th, which was a big gap.

Yeah, it wasn't as low as a regular 9. Most regular 9 speeds had a .73 overdrive gear while the R ratio set had a .80 or something like that. Almost as high as the low split 9th in a 13 or 18 speed.

had a freighliner with rockwell transmission...if you know what you r doing, it shifts just nice...rockwell is not for the average steering wheel holder...and for reliability, it seems to last longer than any eaton.

I bought a 1998 freightliner w/ Rockwell 10 OD. I now have 2,750,000 on it and I haven had a single issue with it. Never been into it, just front and rear seals and pilot shaft bushing when I replaced the clutch. I ran synthetic oil only with prolong additive in the beginning. Still driving this truck all over the country on a daily basis.

    I love them. SOO MUCH.

One regret or nicky picky, they should have built 13's instead of your plain idiot proof company crap 9 speeds.

I still love them so much. The reason being in my day they were shorts. If you had to grab a gear in heavy traffic there is USUALLY one waiting close by in RPM terms either going up or coming down.
