I am.... Sitting on the yard, on a shady patio, enjoying a cool beverage, while talking to you... Do these few hours away from home count towards the "minimum wage" calculations or must I actually be sleeping in my cab???

In what year did they drive that golden spike in the intercontinental RR???

Intermodal at that time was the guy with a team of horses and a big wagon... Took it to the local store owner... Who then made money from selling the goods.

This model has been around for some time.

To make it clear what happened after deregulation.

The number of trucking companies, all trucking companies diminished. The number off small guys and independents diminished.

The entry barrier for new companies grew larger.

Mid size companies that treated their drivers like dirt grew to megas-crap companies that treated their drivers worse.

    No, it hasn't.

If you didn't read my fist post; Technology and economic time change models drastically.

Just like the internal combustion engine revolutionized the world of the 'horse and big wagon,' the computer revolutionized intermodal freight. The logistics of tracking and routing thousands of rail cans on just as many rail cars on hundreds of trains just was not possible and cost prohibitive before the personal computer.

And my Great Great Grandmother believed the snake oil sales representative 125 years ago and we still have them today... on tv... Let's toss lawyers and used car salesmen in the mix too.

    Your point?

I suggest you check your history. Study up on how one got operating authority during the related days. Did many companies collapse in the years after deregulation? Absolutely. They couldn't make the adjustment of having to compete for customers. Does that mean deregulation was bad? No it means those were poorly run companies.

Today any of us can buy a truck, get an mc number and start hauling freight. Do most fail? Yep. But many of us learned how to make real good money owning a truck. And enjoy working for ourselves vs being an employee. You couldn't do that in those days.

For 21 years now I've owned trucks. deregulation era trucking has provided a very good life for my family and I. If i had been born 20 years earlier that could not have happened in the regulated era. The best I could have accomplished in trucking was a company driving job and hoping the Teamsters didn't screw my retirement fund. Maybe a good paying company job is enough for you and others. Nothing wrong with that, but there is also nothing wrong with me and others like me wanting the rewards of being the guy in charge of our success and failures.

The more things change the more they stay the same... Some model; larger scale.
