Hey guys, a super-newbie here.
I would like to know if an "owner operator" designates truckers who own their truck and operate independently? Like one-man-one-truck trucking companies, and only the single man/woman ones?
Also I'd be thankful if someone could tell me what is the proper US term for trucking companies the kind where the company has their trucks, hires drivers, bids for loads... Unless the correct term is a 'trucking company'.![]()
What is an "owner operator"?

The term owner operator initially means a one man show(the owner is the driver). I still consider myself an owner operator even with having drivers in my other trucks. I still run a truck as needed. When an owner has ten or more trucks they tend to be considered a fleet.
Here in the states it is still called (trucking company) or transportation carrier. -
Much appreciated!
Do you have any clue as to how common is it for owner operators to be in a situation like yours, consisting of more than one truck/driver? -
yes, the term "owner operator" is reffering to a driver that owns his/her truck and is not affiliated with a major carrier. the term for companies in the U.S is either trucking company, motor carrier or OTR motor carrier. -
Thats the best that I've got. Sorry again.

Fair enough, got the gist of it in the meanwhile.
