I would like to put out a statement and ask a question at the same time. What is going on with our profession?

I've been running with a friend that drives for a large freight company. He has 13 years seniority, number 1 driver, close to his million mile safe driving award, we get to talking and he says he's looking for another job. There has been a whole attitude change towards the drivers. I further investigate and find there has been a major change in corperate management, and that the company did horrible on last quarter's earnings. Last night I go into work and I meet him on the dock, he quit and got hired by my company. He had to throw away everything he had with Conway, because of unfair treatment.

I come here and I read posts about various companies and the way they are treating and paying their drivers. I could not exist on what some of these companies are paying their people.

My Dad drove 30 something years for United Grocers, now Unified Western Grocers, he told me that he had stopped and talked to driver about how things were going. The Safety Dinners are no longer there, they did away with the company picnic, anything that was geared towards the family or driver has been done away with. WTF!

Let me vent! Hey you large trucking companies, hey freight haulers, even you grocery companies, anyone that has a driver under your employment, delivering your goods, listen up.

Remember when you were small or just starting out, remember on who's backs your company and it's reputation was built. On the freaking backs of men and women that were willing to work for you. And now you treat us like crap. I haven't heard of many big catered office parties being cancelled lately. Oh we've got to save money, we didn't make a big enough profit, horsecrap! So you will lower our wages, cut our benefits, hire people right out of trucking school, pay them below poverty level wages, put them in a new fancy rig, when in the first 3 to 6 months they have some minor accidents or scrapes, while you sit behind your desk dreaming of the BMW or Jag you are going to buy.

What happened to company loyality. Think on this, if you keep on doing this to us and begin to let other countries come in and haul our goods, then the very thing that made this country great will be lost. It will also effect the economy, and the ability to buy and support our families, maybe not right away, but sometime in the future.

Wake up. All we ask for is a decent wage and fair treatment, you give us that and there are still a lot of us that will work our fannies off for our companies.

I hope that I made some kind of sense and also I not against trucking school graduates, I'm against the way companies take advantage of them.

    Late, Flybynite

    Flybynite,

You pretty much nailed it there, sad but true. The trend you speak of is not exclusive to just trucking either, it is rampant throughout corperate America.

Years ago, a guy could work his way up the ladder and into management if he so desired. In the trucking world, a driver could get into dispatching or into the shop and work his way up into mechanic supervision. In the manufacturing sector, a guy could go from general labor into supervision or lower management. For the most part those days are over. The trend is to hire people with a degree in say "logistics" and put them in charge of a department which they have no experience in as per the work. These people look good on paper, which is all the Human resources natzis are looking for.

There is no application of common sense in todays business climate sadly. Company policy states grounds and consequences for almost any condition, yet leaves little if any provisions for the slightest error of an employee. From what I see posted in the newbie forums here, a driver who accidentaly puts a 1/2 inch scratch in his bumper and fails to report it is dealt with (fired) in the same manor as if he tore the hood & doors off completely.

Our world has transformed from one of a physicaly taxing nature to one of a mentaly taxing nature. Years ago trucks were brutal to drive, but at least we dealt with poeple who understood logic and had decent morals. Todays trucks can be driven by 100 pound women, but we deal with office people who've never driven a car with a manual transmision, much less a class 8 rig, and who really only care for themselves and whatever it takes to cover their own self.

Much of this blame falls directly on the government due to the enormous amount of regulation placed on corperations. Laws now favor the squeeky wheels and the unproductive. I have seen first hand a company train their hundreds of employees in "sensitivity" all because one fellow who worked there informed them that he was going to have sexual mutilation (sex change) done on himself to become a female. Human resources natzis, after consulting company lawyers, decided they'd cover their corperate behind and conduct company wide training and lay down consequences for any employee who might tease this person. The term "harrassment" has gone from meaning extra undesired attention, into one that can and will transform into 7 figgures with the right laywer. That's just one example of many that happens these days.

As the world changes, so does corperate America. I've heard it said that, back one hundred years ago, 90% of this countrys citizens all shared the same moral and ethical beliefs. I honestly believe that premise to be true. Today however, it is almost fassionable for a guy to be a homosexual and for a girl to be at least bi, and/or have had abortions. Young people today see this as normal, where many in older generations see this as the devils work.

A few years back, a nearby fire department was in the proccess of filling the vacant position of fire chief. Long story short is that none of the guys who had been there many years got promoted into the job, because the leftist city hall decided that a young minority lesbian woman from far out of state with little experience was more "qualified"..

Insert these new trends, desires, and fasions of todays youth, coupled with endless gubbermint regulation, into todays workplace and you get what we have right now.

It's sad to hear this. It hasn't happened around here yet. Mike works for a huge company and they still give safety bonuses, company picnics, Christmas parties, awards, etc.

If you go with them, they take your safe miles and put them on your record and you start climbing up from there - you don't have to start at the bottom again.

Lots of truckers are now management around here, too.

It's sad to hear that's happening so widely in the USA. I hope it doesn't spread up here but it probably will. That's not good. Companies with heart are getting harder and hard to find :(

These are BAD things??? Why??? You're showing a huge prejudice and intolerance here for anyone who is not of the same standards as you are. Are you the moral police?

Since when is it horrible to have a sex change, be homosexual or have a woman in charge who is mor qualified than anyone else there and isn't a local and maybe isn't white or "straight"? So what?!?!?! What difference does it make what these people do in their sexual lives??? They're still PEOPLE!!

I'm really appalled at the prejudice and hatred I'm seeing on this board the more and more I read it. It's appalling how close-minded and intolerant so many here seem to be. It's like you're regressing back to the intolerance of the 1800s where no one would ADMIT they were different for fear of being hurt. 100 years ago you have no CLUE what others thought because no one would dare voice it if they thought differently than the "majority".

Remember, people of different faith and different beliefs than you are not BAD people! They are DIFFERENT! Where is your tolerance???!?

    myminpins,

Why yes ma'am, I am indeed showing my intolerances of todays business climate, among other trends I have prejudices against. Here goes - Sex change, yeah that is a VERY alternative decision to say the least. Yes I do think that any dude who wants to become a female is ****ing whacked in the head. Sorry for my personal morals kicking in here, I'm just normal.

As for the non local young homosexual minority woman, with very very little fire department experience getting the FIRE CHIEF job over the men who have many years in that very fire department, yes I will stand by my opinion that the leftist city counsel had no intention of filling the fire chief job with any white men (who were already working under the former fire chief and had many years of experience) ....they were hell bent on see to it that anyone OTHER than a white male got the job. If you understood how leftist liberal ideology worked, you would see my point on how this is whacked. To be clear on my take I will say this - If the minority/lesbo/woman had many years of fire fighting at this very department under her belt, but they hired some white male from 2000 miles away who had no real experience, then yes, I would give the nod to the chick. But the city council passed over a ton of local qualified men, and found someone in a pre-approved victim status.

What you fail to see is that afirmative action is only looking to see women and minorities get hired, as opposed to the best person for the job.

In closing, I really could care less what homos do in their bedroom. But when their agenda is to fill the elementary school with their BS, and when their sexual preferance comes into play if the are *qualified* for a job. then yes I have a problem.

In the last few decades, there has clearly been a grab at the re-distribution of power from white heterosexual men, to people other than white heterosexual men.

Since you have pegged me for something you do not agree with, I will offer the same back at you -

You probably think Pedeofiles and child molesters are "basicaly" in the same light as homosexuals. It's just a 'choice', right?

How about an ALL female army/marines troops to defend this country??

This country could never had made it where it is today, had it started out 200+ years ago with the leftist ideology ways we have today.

Your turn, ma'am. No hard feelin's
