I went local 19 years ago so I think they have always been there. I think the guys that could really struggle with this are guys in very rural areas due to a good chance of nobody being around to work for. I've been lucky and have always either lived in a city or within a hour or so of one.

Right.....bigger city areas or areas rich with a particular industry is great for local. I'd say people living in certain parts of Texas could go either direction. Definitely NYC I would thinkFlaSwampRat Thanks this.

True. If you're in a HUB like Ncarolina, then you got choices. I'm in s.Fla (crap choices)...gotta go OTR.

WHO'S the night driver and how does that work? Is there a time slot you change over at? If your both awake in the daytime....how is that fair to the night driver?TravR1 Thanks this.

Where I am at we just change over when the other guy runs out of hours and there is still driving that needs doing.
Usually its a situation where you do drops or pick ups say in Wisconsin. Then you gotta drive to Minneapolis for next days pick ups.
Well that wont take ALL night to drive there. I think I usually get parked at 1AM. Most of the longest drives are going from terminal to terminal, then terminal to route area, then route area to drop. All done over the weekend. All night driving during the week when both guys are working is rare.
The hardest part is just not sleeping when you are in bed. Like last night, I didn't sleep. My body keeps pulling for being awake overnight and wants to sleep during the day. And my schedule changes up just regularly enough to keep me from getting a pattern going.tman78 Thanks this. -
Thats a good question though. A lot people don't even think about that or realize it until it happens. Even sometimes when you tell them to give them early on it just doesnt seem to sink in.tman78 Thanks this.

Florida is the ltl capital of the world....think about how over crowded it is here, all those people need things therefore trucks to deliver it. When I decided to go back out driving I literally had like 20 companies to choose from. Rural is like wy oh Ming, I would find it hard to believe that you couldn't find something in Floridatman78 Thanks this.

Hey Swamp...truthfully, i hadn't checked LTL driving (but i will now). But like i said, after this season, things should be clear to go. Thanks for that tip! (PM sent).FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

I would 'think' that 1 driver is accustom to driving nights and the other days. Basically, it sounds like you're saying 'its a random schedule?' Correct?
(i like the team driving idea,...but not sure of the logistics of it).
